What is everyone using here for their tripods?

Just what the title says. I'm interested in seeing if there's a pattern here, as well as gather various models so I can make my own decision on what to get.

Sachtler DV6SB with Sachtler 4183 DA 75 legs. Got an awesome price on Craig's List. Legs could be better, but the head is really good for DSLRs.

t2i optimally prefers working with the Bogen 561b monopod,
and for a tripod the Miller VJ legs with Cartoni Focus 100 head.

****, I came in here hoping to find a good setup but found bankruptcy

I got 300$ to spend and I need a good tripod for t2i (max pounds that'll ever be used prob around 4) Thinking of 701HDV 190XPROB legs it would equal 300$ lol...

Ive been looking at building a similar package for the sticks and the head.
How good is the cartoni head and the rigidity of the sticks?

Am working with both Fully rigged DSLRs with monitors mounted and the panasonic Camera Hpx version.

Let me know....

Thanks.

I have two tripods, one for studio use (Libec LS38-2a) and one for travelling (Miller DV20). I love them both for what I use them for. Wouldn't use Miller too much in-studio except for locked down shots (too light) and wouldn't travel much with Libec (too heavy and bulky).

shi*, I came in here hoping to find a good setup but found bankruptcy

Don't get the 190xprob legs... if you want to go this route get the 055xprob legs. Look at the weight ratings as STABILITY ratings also... the 055x is the threshold where Manfrotto pods start to get serious (I'd still call these entry level, but decent).

To the OP... if you have the cash, I'd get a system with a bowl (half-ball)... like the ones many have posted. I have a gitzo w/ 75mm ball... originally chose it for highest weight rating with tallest AND lowest height... but it's the single legs model (3 big tubes) instead of the more popular double leg type (like Sachtler, Miller, Libec, etc.) and I can say that I definitely prefer the double leg pods. Twist locks on tripods suck... keep that in mind too. I've grown to despise the twist locks on my gitzo.

it's not a $2500 head But perhaps an equal or better value.
Focus seems like they're the low end entry level 100mm, but its lightweight adjustable and very smooth esp for the price. It has a couple of plastic parts I don't care for, but it's very cool looking and lightweight.
The quick release lock was broken once in transit because it was shipped on a plane in a bag. Though I was still able to work with it safely - very nice design.
Ste-Man has great customer service, good people.

Miller VJ legs are a true RAZOR, I have a heavy duty Gitzo for view & medium cameras, back in the day had even heavier duty Gitzo's made for view cameras when I shot 4x5 & 8x10 film on location. These VJ legs I consider more versatile and stable even when fully extended to 74". Not to mention their lightweight versatility and cool look.

Downsides are that the spreader isn't adjustable and the head isn't great at tilting smoothly...but the pans are remarkably smooth, and the whole setup has a really solid feel to it, not all rattly as some will get over time (and need adjustment.) Also, really really cheap. No where near the best out there but in terms of performance for price it is quite excellent, although it doesn't give you quite the same flexibility as it probably should.

I'm using this cheap Velbon CX686 tripod I bought for £20. Works wonders for me personally. I also use it as a steadicam (dangling stuff on the middle leg and weighting it), and for the price there are no downsides.

I use these, but bought them for the height, not the weight capacity.

My feelings on a tripod, they are all wonderful, as long as between the lens and the subject, nothing in there is taller than your tripod. If it is, well, you're screwed.
