What is Canon 5D MK II's HDMI video out signal/resolution when recording video?

I have searched the net for a definite answer to if it is 480p or 480i when recording. I can not find an answer as some say it is 480i while some say it is 480p... This makes a big difference. Does anyone know 100% which one it is?

Sorry to HiJack this thread but it is along the same lines perhaps.

I would like to have the option of showing a live picture through a HDMI out.
I get some gigs where I show a picture of the speaker to a room or hall full of people.

When they say HDMI out on the new 1DX isn't clean...how bad is it?
Does the 5D2 do HDMI out?

It isn't going to be on the 5D3 either I suppose based on not putting it on the 1DX but I know the new Nikon D800 has it.

Would hate to switch although I only have the 20D and 24-70, 50mm 1.4 and the 15mm fisheye...all Canon.

I would expect it on the 5D3 (if there ever is one). The 7D can do it because it has dual processors as hopefully the 5D3 will. That's the issue, not enough CPU horsepower to record AND send a 1080P signal to the HDMI out.

Well I hope your right Gonzo because I will buy two 5D3s if they have it.

I never knew 7D had it though.....thats a great Plan B then for me maybe as a second Body.
Never really looked at the 7D because I had read about some issues with it and dismissed it right out of hand.

Plus I had my heart set on 5D2s but didn't like the rolling shutter issues and waited for the 5 D3 because I had bought a Sony Ex3 in the meantime.

Will deff now start looking at the 7D.

Thanks for that very handy info!

IMO it's the ONE reason to pay the extra for the 7D over the 60D, t2i, t3i, etc.... the 1080 HDMI out. I rent 7Ds fairly regularly for the 60 FPS when shooting music videos.

What is your take on these focussing issues I read about in reviews of the 7D on fredmiranda.com?

Do they work with the lens you use with the 7Ds.

They say some are better than others. What recorder do you use to get HDMI for the 60fps?

I see on this video that you cannot turn off the square in the middle of the screen.

Around 4.31 on the video? So it isn't of any use to me then.

Are you saying I can't use a HDMI to SD-SDI converter to power an SD-SDI monitor? Is it possible to get 480i out not 480p while recording?

I'm not recording the HDMI out. There may be a magic lantern fix for the white square, but not sure. The plus of 1080 HDMI out is that you can send that full res to a video village or other monitor and have it be HD resolution.

You were right yet again. Guy on this thread:

With Magic Lantern, you can disable the white-square forever; and the grey bars too! :)

On the Magic Latern PDF:
http://magiclantern.wikia.com/wiki/Unified/UserGuide#LiveV
Global Draw: ON/OFF
Enable/disable drawing extra graphics elements (zebra, cropmarks, histogram, waveform, false color, spotmeter, audio meters, ML shooting info...).
Tip: use this setting to quickly turn them off.

this is another situation where a gh2 might be better suited for the job.
no clip limits and live hdmi out

Also remember the 12 min recording limit. So you're going to be stopping/starting your video every 12 mins.

You can't get recordable hdmi out of the gh2 - the pulldown cadence is screwed

You don't need recordable HDMI out of the GH2, the internal hacked codec good enough.

Nobody said anything about wanting to record the HDMI feed did they?..
