What is better? 24P -24pAdv - pull down ratio?

I would like to know which 24p setting has the best picture quality when captured to FCP, I have read that I should put the camera on the normal 24p mode and then in the scene file under progressive select 24p(adv). and if that is the best quality 24p setting what pull down should i use when capturing on FCP, 2:3:3:2 or 3:2:3:2 pull down

(I also have my capture setting at 23.98fps, is that gonna give me a true 24p capture?)

(Here are two sites where I got my information from)
- http://www.dvfilm.com/maker/dvx100settings.htm

Thanks for checking my thread out

it seems from the web site you have sent me that my best decision, which is to make 24p DVD's, is to use 24pa(scene file F6) with a capture pull down of 2:3:3:2, but what should the progressive setting be under the scene file in the camera, OFF 30P 24P 24P(adv) or is that the same as using the scene file defaults?

You should use 24Pa (=24P adv) if you are going to remove 2:3:3:2 pulldown and create 24p dvd's. This is the default in scene file #6.

Wait, I'm confused. I thought if you use 24pa and have a NLE with 24pa capture abilitity then there is no pulldown. Pulldown is only when going from 24p (standard) to a 29.97 timeline. Because I think I'm finally ready to start shooting some 24pa stuff and Premiere Pro can go straight to a 24pa timeline with no pulldown. Am I wrong?

hey, thanks alot for the info, I have one more question, when I capture with FCP, I remove the 2:3:3:2 pull down, and i capture with a 24.98p setting, my timeline and all other settings as 23.98, now when i export the video to put into DVD studio pro, do i have to do anything to ensure the best DVD 24p video quality?

(I feel like a major newbien asking all these questions and i garuntee that they have all been asked and answered on these boards before, but hear i am anyway)

The DVX always records 24p and 24pa to tape with pulldown added.
If you wish to use as pure 24 (23.98) then you have to remove the pulldown in your editing software or elsewhere.

DVD Studio Pro will automatically set the right fps IF you use Compressor export from FCP or have output 24fps MPEG. 24fps QuickTime will not be dealt with correctly (according to DVD Pro help files)

For best quality select 60 minutes , high quality encode from compressor settings. 90 or 120 minutes if you have a long piece obviously.
