What is a good intermediate codec to go from Windows to Mac?

What profesionnal codecs out there would you recommend? We used Cineform until now to go from PC to MACS and bring elements from one machine to the other. But White Clipping problems in the Cineform Codec forces us to look elsewhere. Pro-Res won't do because it can only be rendered on MAC. I heard good things about the AJA and BLACKMAGIC codecs. Any feedback? Are there any others out there?

We work under Premiere 5.0 WIN7 and often need intermediate codec to go to After Effects, Da Vinci (On Mac), and any other machine.

Thank you.

The avid DNxHD may be worth trying I believe its available for Mac and PC I'm sure it handles super whites too.

Surinder.

The free AVID DNxHD CODEC works well. Or if you have the budget ( $300 for each platform for the GoPro Cineform Studio Premium software ) the Cineform CODEC is great. I've used both for projects, and prefer the Cineform CODEC.

We havbe Cineform NEO 5.6 and that is precisely the Codec which is posing problem. Unlike any other Codec I have tested, the Cineform is the only one that does Supewhite Clipping when exported from Premiere. I need one that does not clip the whites and which can be rendered/read both on Premiere Win7 and MAC. My feeling is that the AVID codec may just work on Avid.

What does the industry use besides Pro-Res?

Have you considered upgrading to GoPro Cineform Studio Premium, as it's the only thing that's getting full support and compatibility fixes. ( some upgrades were only $49, depending on which of the older products you own )

Okay, what about uncompressed? It would solve all my problems. Unfortunaltely Premiere Win7 will generate an AVI file and Mac will only recognize a MOV file. Is there a way to export uncompressed in Premiere Win7 using MOV wrapping or any other Mac compatible way?

How can you go from PC to Mac with uncompressed video?

When I export uncompressed video on Premiere CS5 (Win7), it generates AVI files. Unfortunately MAC systems can not recognize AVI files (Only MOV files). So how can I export an uncompressed video in Premiere Windows and make it Mac compatible? I need to do so for the colour correction facility. They want Uncompressd but they can't work with AVI as they use Da Vinci on MAC.

There are a number of uncompressed QT options (.mov) with various bit resolutions.

They work fine across platforms.

Did you try the AVIDdnxHD codec as suggested? That works perfectly as well.

All codecs, including DNxHD, Cineform, and Blackmagic crush the superwhites. Only uncompressed does not. I exported the entire show in Uncompressed 8Bit Maximum quality. It is 5 times larger than Cineform. However there appears to be more grain in this version than in the Cineform version. How strange.

I wonder if something is wrong with the way you are exporting off the timeline?
Codecs like DNxHD and Cineform are perfect for what you are describing, cross platform intermediate codecs that won't crush or compress footage with each export. I wouldn't rule out that perhaps your encoder is crushing your whites before it gets to the codec?

My encoder is Premiere CS5.
The settings there could be your culprit- I usually use Adobe Media Encoder so I'm not familiar enough with the limitations of Premiere's built in algorithms to know what to look for. But they work differently. Do you have access to AME?
