what I want to know is.....

Weeeellll. If you think back a little more than a year ago.... Sony originally said that the FS700 would be released in June and then June came and went. And so did July and most of August and then, eventually, they started to show up.

Which is to say: manufacturers lie. Especially about release dates.

CD originally said late July, so, taking Sony's inability to use a calendar as a guide, I expect it will be early October before they start shipping.

yes, they lie because they want to prevent that we buy competitor's stuff.
And as CD is a subsidiary company of Sony they might share the same calendar
;-)

I don't know about you, but I got my FS700 end of June.

Late September? Dang, it's getting later and later. I would almost hope they could release it earlier with less features and update it with firmware as opposed to releasing it later with everything.

I didn't. I got a lot of "Sony aren't telling us anything". And I think the same is true for many people. Maybe you're just special.

Had mine end of June ,2012, first shoot June 26.

Yeah, right. They all "lie". They don't have unforeseen delays - or firmware or hardware issues that come up during pre-release testing, and need to be worked out etc. - or aren't just overly aggressive somewhere in the chain of hundreds of people at various levels that all need to come together for the release of a complicated piece of technology to happen. They just lie, on purpose, because they're evil. Right.

...Yeah that's just not true. I shot material on July 4th 2012 after having my camera for a week. Please don't misrepresent the facts, thank you. But I did have the foresight to pre order my camera.

There's no indication that CD is lying. To be fair I think they're giving us more than ever thought they could. Whether Sony has allowed them to or their engineers keep discovering new avenues once this thing hits who ever has an fs700 better jump for joy. All we own now is a souped up FS100, without them we would've felt slighted in some respect or another with the Sony solution. If they give us true 10-bit 4:2:2, 2k from the 4k stream and decent compressed 4k then they're doing ok in my book and if they need a little more time I'm willing to cut them some slack. Spend 4 grand it's like owning a new camera. I'm trying to be excited. Hopefully soon we'll know something. Thanks

Nice post Marino.

I think what's kind of really incredible is that the FS700 + 7Q the FS700 is on paper far better than the F3 which required a recorder as well to get the 4:4:4, which the FS700 will also have, but with high frame rates + RAW. That's really awesome.

But yeah, I would love to have it sooner than later :)

Can we let Convergent Design do their job right PLEASE ?

If they need a little more time to polish their hardware and firmware, let it be. Even more if they have unexpected delays due to a manufacturer they work with.

Let them breathe ! Or maybe you want to buy a beta product full of bugs like a RE... whoops! Almost said too much ! :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

I'm sure a lot of us, me included, have their eyes on the Odyssey7Q and want it as soon as possible and so tension is building up but be patient !

I'm a bit shocked... source please ?

I'm sure no one here has ever had a video deadline slip or have something come up out of their control... imagine making something physical that depends on a LOT of third-parties in coordination to get it out the door. Sometimes deadlines slip. And if I'm not mistaken, pretty much every mention of a release was never a specific date, but rather something like "We're aiming for late July" or something along those lines.

Thanks Gene, it really is a great little camera, certainly the OdysseyQ will be a welcomed addition, I'm excited. Did some testing (unscientific) playing around with S-log over the weekend and wow what an improvement. Can only imagine if I had the CD unit. In good time my friend, in good time. :)

Wow, jeez. You guys are super-tetchy.

One thing to point out: You boys that got your cameras in June. You're US. I'm in Europe. Maybe, just maybe, you can cut me some slack for being annoyed that a company might say 'released in June' when they really mean, "released in Japan/US in June, EMEMA can wait a couple of months for something and, by the way, you'll pay more for it!"

But hey. Anyway, way to go to jump on my light hearted comment. I was simply trying to get people to calm the-f-down about the release dates and point out it is very common for release dates to slip from the original "Wow! If we're lucky we could just about get this thing out by end of xxxxxer" marketing rubbish. Have you guys noticed that the prices have gone down too? That the largest drive option has been dropped?

Which is to say: Take a step back. All you fan boys calm down about how amazing it's going to be. All you player-haters calm down about how annoying CD are being by shifting the goalposts all the time. The 7Q will come when it comes. Nothing we can do here will make it come any quicker.

It will do what it does. Some of it will be useful, a lot of it (I imagine) will be somewhat less than what we hoped for. You know what: that's life in the modern world. The reality never quite lives up to the marketing.

But when you take a step back a look at things with a more sensible head on you'll realise that, if nothing else, it adds some useful capability to our little cameras, for not an excessive pile of coin - as to whether or not those additions are worth the coin, only time will tell - that all depends upon whether or not producers are willing to pay for those little extras (I know my Samurai was a total waste of money - absolutely no demand for it!).

Also it's nice to know that they're trying to get a reasonably useable product out there on release rather than some annoying brick that shuts down randomly or turns on the hair-dryer half way through a take.

Colinelves, as I recall, you were the one complaining about something that was actually not true. I am not a "fan boy" as I also own Panasonic cameras, Nikons and Canons. Perhaps just sit back and relax, have some tea. Cheers!
