What happens if battery expires while filming?

I'm considering using another HMC as a locked off static cam. What happens to the last clip if the battery goes flat while recording? Will that clip be corrupted?

I have tested this several times, and every time it worked fine. I believe that the reason it works is the specific reason of why they switched to the chipped "intelligent" batteries. The camcorder can now sense when the battery is about to expire, and successfully save/close the file before the battery runs out.

I don't know if it's absolutely guaranteed to work that way, but I tried it three or four times just to make sure the performance was consistent, and it was.

I then tried to force the issue by putting the camcorder on AC power, and yanking out the power cord while it was recording, and in that scenario the clip was corrupted. So I think that there is definitely a difference, and that the camera does know when the power is about to expire and stops recording on its own before the power goes out completely.

Have you tried having both the AC and the battery in while recording and then yanking the power cord? I suppose if the unit is running from the battery whenever the battery is in, then it won't have any effect. Or if it defaults to AC but kicks over to battery when there's a power interruption, and kicks over fast enough, that would work out okay, too.

But if it doesn't kick over fast enough? Or if having the AC plugged in defeats the battery?

I'm going to try this on my FS-100. No, actually, I won't.

I didn't think it was possible to use the battery and AC power at the same time on this cam. Is it possible?

My tests are the same as Barry - As far as the AC is concerned its not going to be like a battery.. It will corrupt the clip if power goes out... but when the camera comes back on it asks if you want to restore the clip, and that worked perfectly. I did lose 2ish minutes of footage of a live show while the clip was being restored, thank god for multi camera shoots! Now I try to always be on battery.
