Hello I was looking for a power source and found many electric generators. What i want to know is , it there any good generators out there that is quiet enouph for me to film. i need it for lights, laptop, monitors etc... I found many on ebay that sound like weed wackers. please help. thank you in advance for all help provided.

There is no such thing as a quiet generator. If you need quiet you should look into something like an array of marine batteries.

The quietest generators are the Honda EU series. They're much quieter than unattenuated generators, but they're still internal combustion engines and they still make noise and they still need to be put like 100 feet away from your filming scene, behind a building or a truck or something...

thanks barry. which do you recomend and how many voltage does it have? can u point me to a link i want to buy. thank you so much

I recommend the Honda generators as well. In addition, you can build an enclosure with one open side to allow for exhaust. You can use this to direct the generators engine noise away from your shooting location. It will also act as a muffler.

Coleman Superquiet - 60kw.
Probably way out of the ball park on this one I assume.

The key thing to keep in mind when you are shopping in the consumer generator realm is that regardless of how many watts they are, most of the time they only have 1 20 amp circuit connected to an edison outlet. which lets you lake advantage of just over 2000w. You'll need adapters and breakout boxes for whatever other connection the generator you pick up might have.
You could even pick up a 60a woodhead and with a little reconfiguring, use it to utilize the rest of the generators amperage.

I like the coleman superquiet --- but thats definitely a rental item.
