GH3 What Full Frame Zoom Lens Would You Get For Your GH2/GH3 with Metabones Speed Booster

I'm not sure how the speed booster would work on M4/3. On APS-C it's -0.71x making a 50mm lens a 53.25mm lens if we're using the 1.5x crop factor on the NEX. So would the speed booster on M4/3 yield a 71mm look with a 50mm lens? I think I'd have to figure out what the look would be before making any decisions. Fortunately, I have a good amount of L primes to choose from. :D

I think the M43 version will be -0.71 as well, unfortunately. If it were -.5 I'd buy it in an instant, but it's not quite there at "only" -0.71, for me ;)

When figuring out which lens, just consider that 0.71x focal length conversion and speed increase occurs on the lens... After that, just reason it like any similar lens on any system.

For sensor coverage, the white paper specifies that APS/DX sensors will need full frame lenses for coverage. MFT should be covered by APS/DX lenses and larger.

With that in mind, and knowing their mechanical function, a few DX and larger choices are really exciting:
- Sigma 8-16/4.5-5.6 (6-12/3.2-4)
- Tokina 11-16/2.8 (8-12/2)
- Tamron 17-50/2.8 (12-35/2)
- Nikon 17-55/2.8 (12-40/2)
- Sigma 50-150/2.8 (35-105/2)
- Sigma or Nikon 70-200/2.8 (50-150/2)
- Sigma 50-500/4-6.3 (35-350/2.8-4.8)
- Micro-Nikkor 55/2.8 (40/2)

of course any good 50/1.4 (35/1) or 35/2 (24/1.4)

Consider the optically good yet slow DX super zooms...
- Nikon 18-200/3.5-5.6 (12-150/2.4-4) doesn't sound shabby... Nor the newer, similar speed 18-300. That's my sports highlight lens right there.

one interesting yet rare lens would be the Olympus OM Zuiko 20/2... an optically excellent 14/1.4? Yes.

I don't know... Far too many neat possibilities.

I would also mention the Tokina 16-50 / f:2.8 and 50-135 : f:2.8 (-> 11-35 / f:2.0 and 35-100 / f:2.0) and the Canon 25-105 / f:4.0 (-> 17,5-75 /f:2.8).
But I think it's even more interesting with fast fixed focal lenses. As to the Olympus OM Zuiko 20/2, isn't that a m43 lens? If so, forget it!

No, the OM Zuiko 20/2 is legacy OM mount.

The attraction of something like a Tamron 17-50/2.8 with the speedbooster is that it gives you a lens about the same size, speed, and range as the $2000 Oly 14-35/2... but parafocal and constant, clickless aperture... for half the cost, total, for the combo... and of course you can spread the cost of that adapter out over several such "super-speeded" lenses

For me the super zooms are the most exciting since this is something really lacking in the DSLR world. Sometimes when shooting in a live environment you just don't have the option to switch lenses. Having a 13mm to 210mm is one heck of a zoom lens on m4/3, especially when you consider it is faster and longer then the 14-140 m4/3 lens which is the only native option for that type of zoom. Still not perfect in low light but honestly the best option you will get for a very long time if you want to have that wide of a zoom range in a single lens.

Too bad old FD lenses will not work. I have a 70mm to 210mm constant f3.5 that would love to mount on this adapter. A 49mm to 147mm f2.4 is pretty crazy to think about. Especially when you consider how cheap the lens was. I think I paid $35.00 for it. Not the sharpest tool in the shed but I'm sure the adapter would help that out a tiny bit as well and turn it into a pretty darn decent lens albiet very heavy and virtually impossible to use without a killer rig.
