what fstop gives max sharpness

did a search and found some close answers and I know this is spoken of in the DVX book, but am I correct that the DVX's lens is sharpest at between f4 and f8?

I heard 5.6 was optimal...

thanks, -Ed

I think the rule with most lenses is they are sharpest between 2-3 stops from the minimum aperture and 2 stops from the maximum aperture.

I remember Barry saying that after extensive testing, he found F4.0 to be optimal. At least that's what I use every time I don't care about shallow depth of field.

how much does it drop off at F 1.6?
cause i have been having issues with sharpness lately, because of a lack of light ive been shooting wide open most of the time on this last project.

I have no idea about whats the best Tstop for the Dvx100 , but in the 35mm world , with Primo , zeiss , cook and others , the sharpest range is from 5.6 to 11

And actually it is rather rare that we shoot at theses apertures , 2.8 - 4 is the norm... we gota keep that dof down...

between 4 and 5.6, thats what I thought. Is this "middleground" common to most lenses, or just the DVX?

That sounds right to me, because there was that huge uproar over the HVX's 720 res chart test being at like 4.4 or something, so 5.6 sounds right.
