I am about to start a shoot this weekend with my new upgraded HD100 A !
I am still pondering what format to shoot it in, as the end product will only be see from a dvd .
I also have the added limitations of not as of yet having upgraded my editing deck , I ma still on FCP 4.5 and a G4 , G5 arriving the end of next month too late though.

So should I shoot on 720 30p and struggle with the 3rd party software to get to a quicktime format FCP recognize , and will the process of getting it to a burnable file for Studio Pro actually be recognizable as a a piece shot on HD.
Or should I go the safe way and shoot on sd 24p .
Sorry for this longwinded post , Maybe I should have posted this on the FCP board , but I am wondering about the particular habits of JVC HD being converted to DVD.
thanks

Generally speaking, yes 720/30P would be my choice - originating and editing at HD rez (not necessarily HDV, but using the Apple intermediary codec or DVCPRO HD) and downconverting at the last stage in Compressor for the MPEGs for the DVD.

Thanks direttore

Would there be a noticeable degradation in the final out putted DVD

my understanding is that it's best to indeed shoot in hd and maintain an hd timeline before finally encoding to dvd.

as i understand it, if you immediately down rez to dv or worse yet, originate in dv, you'll end up with a 4:1:0 color space as opposed to a 4:2:0 colorspace.

the JVC website could be clearer on this critical point.

There is no third party software required for 720P30. FCP5 handles it natively and your workflow is almost identical to DV.

Please read my post in this thread for the lo-down on FCP and the HD100.
