What Format for Short Film?

Hi I'm putting together a proposal for a short film- I'm just not sure about what format to shoot. Would anyone be able to steer me in the right direction?

The visuals are important and we want to get the highest quality possible bang for our buck, but are undecided on HD / HDV / DigiBeta. The film has two halves; a flashback which is very warm, rich and idylic- shot on HD (Sony 750/900); the second half is colder, starker and on another format- this is being shot overseas(E Europe) and we can't afford to hire HD cameras so are looking for an alternate- I'm thinking either DigiBeta or Sony Z1/PannyHVX200 with a 35 mil lens adapter (Movietube etc).

My question is will the Sony Z1/PannyHVX200/35 mil lens look rubbish blown up big when cut with the HD footage- worse than DigiBeta? I expect 90% of our screenings to be in SD but I like the idea of having a HD master.

Its all a little dutch to me- any thoughts?

Thanks. Much appreciated.......

Well, the Sony and Panny ARE HD. So, cutting it in with HD footage is right in the ballpark. And since the two parts are going to have different looks anyway (if I understood you correctly), I'm not sure why it would matter anyway. The HVX looks great with an M2, and blows up well. At an HVX meeting in July, we saw some of our footage projected on a 14 foot screen and it looked fantastic (a good deal of my footage was shot with the M2)!

I would make every attempt to shoot the same formats for both looks, and change the look some other way (scene files, color timing, filtration, lighting, etc)

I think if you're going for different looks however it's OK. Anyway, do some research. The Z1 and HVX200 are very different cameras.
