GH5 What Follow Focus/cage to use with GH5 and Rokinon Cine Primes

Hi everyone,

I am planning on buying a Rokinon EF mount Cine Primes kit to use with my GH5 and Metabones Speed Booster.

Do you know of any FF and cage or plate combination so I can use the Rokinon gears directly with the FF?

Thanks a lot!

Virtually any combination that includes a cage that supports 15mm rods will be capable. After that, it's a matter of finding options at a price that meets your desires. There are just so many different cages, follow focuses, matte boxes, etc. of such varying price, quality, features and ergonomics to say there is an obvious choice.

That said, I use those exact lenses with the FOTGA DP500IIS Quick Release Follow Focus. Definitely a budget choice, but has held up to sue and abuse since 2014. I use it with a Honu cage and rod kit. Again, a very cheap option, but has held up with steady use.

I recommend the Tilta FF-T03 FF and found it to be better than many FF units that are much more expensive.

It is fluid dampened (drag adjustable) and has adjustable hard stops plus virtually no play and the gear is reversible if you happen to use lenses that focus in the opposite direction like Nikon lenses do.

It came with gear rings, whip, and other accessories. B&H has it for $466 or in a kit with case and additional accessories for $599.

Thanks so much for the replies. I'll definitely check those options.
I currently have the Came-TV cage but the camera sits too high from the rods so I'd need to use lens gears in order to reach the FF and that's what I want to avoid.

The GH cameras’ lens mount is not the beefiest, & can be distorted when torqued by a follow focus as the lens hits it’s hard stops, especially if using a Speed Crank, so be sure to support the Metabones adapter.

If you get the Movcam Cage Kit for the GH5 it comes with a good Metabones support, actually two different versions, & a set of Iris Rods that are likely the correct length for you needs.

If you plan on swapping lenses often consider a follow focus with a Swing Arm, or quick release lever. Also consider what Gear Ratio you’ll need. Never used a Rokinon, but believe they’re simply still lenses with gears, so likely work best with slower gear ratios, whereas typical Cine lenses work best with faster ratios.

Can rarely go wrong with a ARRI follow focus, but on a lesser budget you might consider Shoot35’s CINEfocus Pro. It’s reversible, has a Swing Arm, & is available single-sided, or can be upgraded to double-sided. Also the gear ratio can be modified by buying different sized gears.

The CINEfocus is well regarded by owner ops, & I’ve had one for awhile. My only complaint is the gears are a bit wide for some older Cine lenses, & it’s a bit bulky for air travel.

Been wanting a more compact follow focus for travel, & been considering Vocas’, but need to test.
