HPX250: What field monitor should I buy?

I have about $1000 budget for a field monitor for the HPX250. I want to use it to see critical focus, exposure, and color. I will use it with a jib and as a location monitor. Which output will get the best results? HDMI or SDI? I want as high a resolution screen as possible... I see the cheap $200.00 from CoolLCD and Marshals for a grand - with lower resolution.... I would like the screen to be at least 7 inches, but I was thinking 10 would be nice. I would also like to run the monitor with Panasonic batteries. Any suggestions? Advice?

HD-SDI will give you the best quality. Check out Ikan or Marshall. Ikan may be in your price range. You will get what you pay for with a $200 monitor.

I agree with the HD-SDI. It doesn't come loose when you accidentally bump it like HDMI can. Check out the SmallHD DP6 Monitor with the SDI option. It's very sharp. With peaking and 1:1 you can see very minute changes in focus. I have one I use with a Sony FS100 and the HPX250.

If you can boost your budget just a tad, check out the TVLogic…

And you can add the waveform option/upgrade later, I believe.

I recommend the higher end version of this monitor, the VFM-056WP, if you can stretch a bit more budget wise. I set up a DVXUser discount with Film Tools. I don't think TV Logic allows the W to be upgraded to the P, if they do, it most likely would cost more than just buying the WP with the forum discount. The scopes, HDMI to HD-SDI converter, false color are useful. This monitor has more features than any monitor at its price point, great resolution, super light weight, lots of battery options. Color is not perfect, however, due to the panel(same panel as Small HD 5.6").

SmallHD DP6 has a yellowish cast although it got a lot better with the latest 2.1 firmware upgrade.

Another vote for the TV Logic with waveform. Best and most versatile piece of gear I own. It will work with every camera under the sun.

Thanks for all the advice! Is the HPX250's wave form monitor up to muster? Do I need to duplicate it on the field monitor? I can't wait for Barry's book.... I am still learning this camera.

Picked up a VFM-056WP today. Awesome monitor. I love the focus assist in monochrome. Makes the red really pop. What do you guys have you focus assist set to? I think the default is like 90 or 95.
Also, do you leave it in Pixel to Pixel all the time for best focusing?
