Hello,
Is Magic Bullet just a program that demos other programs? When I open it up, it gives me folders that say: Sony Vegas 5.0, Adobe Premiere Pro, Avid Express Pro, etc. etc.

Also, when I try to install them it says it failed because the specified module could not be found. Anyone have this happen? Anyways, got the dvx today. What a beautiful camera!

Re: What exactly is Magic Bullet?

It doesn't demo other programs, it is allowing you to install the plug-in to work with various programs. You select which editing program(s) you're using, and it'll install the plug-in for that program.

Re: What exactly is Magic Bullet?

Magic Bullet is the software that I didn't get because I decided to be an idiot and buy my camera from an unauthorized dealer.

Re: What exactly is Magic Bullet?

I'm not overly impressed with MB though really. It's great when you are in need of a quick fix but I find that you can do so much more (and better) with Color Finess. Maybe thats just me though. Anyone else have personal opinions about MB for Editors?

Re: What exactly is Magic Bullet?

i've been a happy Color Finesse user (and still i am) but MB is something else i think,
I will not talk about the true Magic Bullet plugin since we DVX user don't really need it...
MB Editors doesn't really correct your image it gives it a certain style quickly (which you can have with CF but not so easylly excpt by spending a huge amout of time saving presets).

I work in Music commercials mostly and time is short for me to deliver the goods (1 day shoot / I day edit / 2-3 days graphical work & compositing). And usually, clients always want the "Private Ryan" or "Wathever the last blockbuster thay saw" particular look. So i usually go for an MB preset as a base and trick it to gat what i want. Some clients sometimes even ASK for an MB treatment because thay do see it as a real magical trick that will make their DV spot look like 35mm dp'ed by Kondji... ::)

It's a fantastic tool but i agree that it doesn't really help creativity !
For a non professional true colourist working in DV, MB gives you an extra tool to make the images pop-up a little.

Re: What exactly is Magic Bullet?

Ok, so MB is definately a program I want to keep and use once I get Vegas 5.0 right? It's not just some cheap program that they send for free to look like I'm getting a good deal?

Re: What exactly is Magic Bullet?

One other thing..how much would MB cost if I just bought it at a store? How much is Color Finess?

Re: What exactly is Magic Bullet?

MB is i no way cheap or crapy soft !

MB editors sells for 299$ and the AE version (MB Suite withe the deinterlacer + Deartifacter + the most excellent Optical Suite) sells for 795$ !

Color Finesse (that now comes free with AE 6.5 which alone worth the upgrade) sells for 595$ (and it worth it)

Re: What exactly is Magic Bullet?

Magic Bullet is capable of great results - don't get me wrong!

I just personally prefer to work with Color Finess because I have experience with graphics and image manipulation. It just suits my style better.

Re: What exactly is Magic Bullet?

Didn't got you wrong at all, I too love CF that i call DVDV (for DaVinci for DV ) ;)
But i'm personnaly no color artist (and when i do a job that requires one i hire one) but for a quick n' easy polish MB is great.

And for a regular DVX user with no particular knowledge of Color grading it's a very good tool (and free !) to get a pleasant image.

You asked for opinions, this is just mine !

Nico

PS: i which i where a CF god...

Re: What exactly is Magic Bullet?

To go from premiere to AE do you have to take your final project and export it out at 24 fps AVI and then import it in AE and use CF?

Re: What exactly is Magic Bullet?

I'm no Premiere user but i think AE can import Premiere's timeline/project without the need to export an AVI

see the Premiere dedicated forum in the NLE's section

Re: What exactly is Magic Bullet?

To get a quick fix look MB is good. I usually use Preimere's standard filters, Levels, Color Balance, Hue & sat, etc. You can almost mimic the looks of MB with just the standard filters.

Re: What exactly is Magic Bullet?

Barry Greens book/dvd shows you how to get a lot of the MB looks in camera instead. And as for Fast, MB takes a hell of a long time to generate your output video. If you do it in camera you can generate your output much faster.
Don't get me wrong, I got MB with my camera and it is a great tool, I'm just saying...
