Vegas 7, advid, ????????????
Please give me you thoughts.

depends on what you do. if you want the full package get the Adobe Production Studio - Premiere, After Effects, Encore and Audition pluss pluss pluss. or get the Pro version with Photoshop and Illustrator pluss AE Professional. it is the most complete package you can get anywhere and edits anything and everything

costs a lot but it'll last you

If you're going to be working in DV or HDV, Vegas 7 would be a good upgrade.

If you're planning on jumping over to the HVX or Red or something like that, Vegas is not the best choice for those. You'd be better off looking at something like EDIUS or even FCP.

Well I really like vegas but before I try vegas 7 I think I would like to know if they made great improvements in the program, seems like 5,6,7 were made one after the other and very quickly almost like a money grab. FCP I would like to try too seems like the stuff thats done on this site is always far and above what vegas can do, but then this means getting a G5 and I might just have to sell one of my kids to get it.

If you want to get a G5 and not an Intel Mac Pro, or even an iMac, you can pick up a G5 dual tower for around 1200 now. iMac Intels come with Core 2 Duo's for 2000 , that includes 1gb Ram, 2.33 GHZ Core 2 Duo and a 24" inch screen. Im not sure youre level needed, but Macs now are very powerful sytstems, and the intels run both windows and OS X natively if you decide to use the PC side for editing, you can still have a real OS experience in Mac OS X

I know little about the HVX...no sense in keeping track until I move to it, but...

Does the new stuff from Serious Magic take care of the problem?

Pull your Panasonic footage directly off a P2™ card or a hard drive and quickly convert the file to QuickTime or AVI using the converter tool included with the decoder. There is no transcoding or re-encoding of the video or audio, so the process is completely lossless. It's also fast. A one-minute MXF file typically takes less than 20 seconds to convert to AVI.

There are number of changes from 5 to 6 which are worthwile, and those changes are still there in 7. Nested projects, for one.

Not as a Quicktime, but you can under AVC. It uses a variation of H.264.

Also, WM9 is a variation of H.264.

You could render a Quicktime H.264 before Apple updated its codec to no longer allow it.

I cut SD with Edius 3.5 on my laptop and on the desktop with the Storm card, which is slowly falling apart. (Looking to upgrade soon, maybe with the NX) Been using it for just over a year and really getting into a good grove with it. Still have room to grow with it if I change formats within the next few years.
