What doesn't the HVX do that the DVX does?

er, what are d and v, and what is Original Cine-like?

They are different gamma settings. Barry Green gave a very good description of both Cine d and v in another thread. It should still be in the first 2 pages of this forum. If not, just do a search on Cine-gamma v and d.

The time lapse on the DVXa, however, is nowhere near the functionality of the HVX. Being a tape system, it can only do about 1 second durations, if memory serves (the tape has to run a certain distance, and needs startup and wind down time). The HVX measures the duration in frames, being instantly digitally recorded on solid state media.

DVX can do .5 second durations - not great by any means but not horrible for longer sessions (otherwise just record and speed up in post, of course). HVX options sound awesome.

The DVX is great, but the time lapse doesn't really look like time lapse--Like a series of short record timed video.

The HVX doesnt have that S**t joystick menu control. Tho the buttons on the hvx are not much better - where is my scroll and click wheel?

Actually, I kind of like the buttons. They seem solid, comfortable, and well spaced . . . and turned sideways!!!!!!!! :furious3:

I'm getting used to it though. It works great when you turn the LCD around and close the door, but when it is a one man shoot it is nerve wracking.

I'd rather the orientation of the buttons for navigating the menus & playback were aligned with the LCD. Either rotate the buttons 90 degrees or allow the LCD to contort.

I like the dvx joystick. It works pretty well. It was a mistake to take it out. Unless you have gorilla type hands, it works perfectly

Being a former canon user with only limited exposure on the DVX... I still bought the HVX for all of the reasons you guys have bought it for.. or are thinking. The DVX was a nice little camera the couple of times I used it... and I didn't think it was leaps and bounds better than the canon I had... but now, I wholeheartedly know that the HVX kicks everythings ASS.

I did a timelapse last night and it turned out really great. The options and settings are amazing. I love the short inteval it also can do.. for some step motion type shooting....

I don't think the two cameras are in the same league. The HVX looks and acts like a pro camera. and each and every day I take it out, it becomes more familiar and easier to operate... especially when I turned the viewfinder black and white. Focus has now become somewhat possible.. Maybe it's just my 34 year old eyes, but the LCD just was so hard to tell if I was in focus or not... The B and W VW really leaves no doubt and is quite awesome.

The HVX is a technological innovation beyond any camera I've seen in this price. What else compares to this cameras skillset?
