What does a Kessler Cineslider need?

Heya...

I'm having a look at the Kessler Cineslider, but the salesman has raised a doubt in my head, so I turn to you.

What is the simplest functional setup I can run a Kessler Cineslider 3' and the parallax add-on.
I have a tripod and a flat base ball mount. I have a video head.

Do I need more than that?

Thanks.

I have a 4' slider. I can tell ya... you'll often need two tripods. Just add a good sturdy stills tripod, $100 or get a used set of bogen sticks. You'll need some kind of adjustable head on it, ball heads are great.

I tapped 3/8 holes in mine and use Manfrotto hex-shaped QR plates, since I've had that system for 20 years of stills. A slider can wobble, and a light stand isn't stiff enough, c-stands are too tall, etc. Two stills tripods or still legs with your video tripod, and you're set when you need it.

Sounds good…. but I can also just attach the flatbase videohead to the slider plate right?

Kessler slider does not have a screw built into the plate. You have to purchase something like this http://www.kesslercrane.com/product-p/qt_top_plate_lpbh.htm

However, I would recommend their low profile ball head or even manfrotto ball head so you can balance the tripod quicker.

Another accessory that I would recommend are their all terrain feet. I know it's totally over price but it's really useful for low slider shot. It can even act as a hi-hat. And like others have said, you really do need 2 tripod. Why don't you go for 5 feet instead of 3 feet?

I'm not familiar with the kessler - I use an igus rail. I drilled & tapped it all over the place, so I can just screw QR plates to it. And yep, ball heads are great for leveling fast. And put a level in your bag!

Having a set of 1/4-20 and 3/8-16 bits and taps is cheap and really lets you do some cool stuff. A $90 harbor freight drill press is icing on the cake, too.

For low shots, I glued 3/4 birch plywood into 1.5" thick slabs, about 12" x 4" and put rubber feet on the bottom. I can bolt these to the slider with 3/8 thumbscrews. it's great for corporate stuff when you want to stick the slider right on the meeting room table, for floors, etc. And they fit in my slider bag.
