GH3 What do you want to see in a GH3/GH2 comparison?

It's pretty much out there that moire is worse. I just stated my opinion on my buying decisions. That doesn't mean it won't be a great camera for you all tho. More power to you if you get one.

Not much about how these guys set up the cameras. You're drawing conclusions way too early. Top video, we have little to go by in camera set up. Bottom is a pre-production camera. Let's just get another week in the Gh3 videos before drawing the line. Even if the Gh3 and Gh2 equal quality I'd still take the Gh3 over the 2 anyway due to its built and IQ.

OK I get that but I also have a GH2 which does almost the exact same thing as the GH3 with less moire so what am I really missing out on?

Here are my reasons for upgrading, your miles may vary.

Larger format camera. Being able to finally grip this camera means everything to me. This is something that imo was what I loved about Canon dslr's. Grabbing a 5d just feels solid...

1080 60fps, I shoot a lot of slow mo and being able to have the same resolution now is EVERYTHING to me. I always shot 720 60fps and upped the resolution, now I will no longer need to do that.

Higher bit rate recording, this now eliminates the need to hack the camera just for higher bit rate recording.

Oled Screen for the GH3, lets be honest the Lcd on the GH2 is not very good. Coming from a Canon 60d, I must admit it was a lot, a lot better.

TIme lapse, do you know how cool it is to now be able to use this feature with no silly adapters connected to the camera?

Cleaner iso, GH2 past 800 iso is very noisy. From the reports 1600 iso on the GH3 is about the same which is HUGE.

Weather sealed body, trust it makes a difference.

Much longer battery life, I cannot tell you how I hated this about the GH2.

Built in headphone jack, not something I will use that much but it's just the little things.

Overall though my MAIN reason for GH3 is higher bit rate, better screen, 1080 60fps and form factor. GH2 is a great camera, an excellent camera actually, but the GH3 is more polished. $1299 is not a factor for me, Just being able to shoot at a higher bit rate , 60fps and better form factor is worth it to me, others maybe not.....

Not to argue with your choice, but once again in that top clip where it's awful, guess which lens- the 12-35 panasonic. We all need to see some clips without that freaking lens! lol

Don't forget to add about a stop better maybe more of ISO performance. Like I said, even if the image is identical between the 2 cameras, the Gh3 will be better.

Well I use that lens on the Gh2 and it's incredible! That top clip, just take a look at his other videos. Even his gh2 vids show poor encoding...

I stand corrected that it may be the lens only..but every clip with aliasing I have seen has been with that one lens...and it is ultra sharp (usually a good thing) So with that and the new filter on the GH3, among other factors- I just think we need to hold the phone until we see some diverse set ups.

Let me know if you'd like to see anything in particular.

Could you please compare the OLED response time to the LCD response time? -> shoot (with a 3rd camera) BOTH the GH2's and the GH3's displays simultanously while having heavy action in front of the camera - e.g. waving your hand from slowly to fast. I'd put the GH2 & GH3 as closely as possible together, side by side with their displays opened and put back onto the camera's back. The cameras will have their lenses aligned slightly "crossed eyes" to capture the moving object(s) by the same framing.

So far I haven't seen any comparision of this kind and you could be the first to do so  (otherwise I will .... soon ...) ;)

Thanks, Noam!

cici, I will definitely keep this in mind for a future test - unfortunately I shot everything for this test much earlier today. I haven't noticed a subjective difference to the response time, although I wasn't looking for it either. Definitely worth checking out. In regards to the OLED though, I find the touch sensitivity on it to be much more accurate and sensitive than the gh2's LCD which is nice.

I have just posted the comparison and review up on my blog. I see some of the videos already popped up on here, but there are quite a few more here along with a detailed writeup: www.noamkroll.com

Also, just shared the link as its own thread if anyone wants to discuss.

All in all, the GH3 is a winner for me. It definitely seems to suffer from moire more so than the Gh2 though... Everything else is a step up!

I keep getting tempted everytime I see another GH3 clip, but the price is astronomical in the UK.
Amazon.co.uk have it for £1,600
