GH3 What do you want to see in a GH3/GH2 comparison?

In a matter of weeks everybody is going to have to have a GH3. Count on it.

I'm glad your so confident in my future earnings. Things have slowed down for me recently and I may have to take on outside work just to pay the rent, never mind inventing $1300 in new equipment.

Ouch! Was on the fence. Definitely hopped off after this. Looks like another year with my gh2 and MIII

Lol, goodbye.... Any and every camera can exhibit moire. Red, Alexa, BMCC, etc. Any and everyone that has used a GH3 is stating it is a better camera in and out, 1 test that means nothing and you draw this conclusion, ok....

That test did nothing.

Did nothing to? Big difference if you ask me... Doesn't mean the GH2 is a better camera now...

But being able to take wide shots of buildings is a must for me and this doesnt look good for the camera...

Not sure here, no improvement in the highlights, but perhaps more shadow detail but barely. It's so minimal that I find it hard to say that it has more than a stop than the GH2.

GH3 appears to have more detail in shadows I would say about 1/2 - 1 stop as well. But I know that the 12mm by SLR Magic is not really a lens to be testing for this. Would like to see these tests on the Olympus 12mm that is by far a sharper/cleaner lens.

Then watch this one and look at the 400% shots. Gh3 looks sharper and less aliased to me.

Also that green tinge that the GH2 always seem to suffer from is now gone. Looks better.

Not a huge difference in detail / dynamic range though. How is the dynamic range compared to lets say a 7D or a 5D?

Nothing wrong with the SLR 12, it's a pretty fantastic lens in fact, and by 2.8 it's on par with the Olympus, with better distortion control and more filmmaking friendly mechanics.

GH2 does look better in regards to Moire, it aliases the same but the moire isn't there.

You can't really do much about aliasing these days without spending major money or going with something softer/muddy, smaller sensor, etc.

=T Can't have everything for nothing.

I don't get it. When the 7D and 5D Mark II had even the slightest bit of moire it was deemed by many as "unusable" and many people jumped ship to the GH2. Now the GH3 has moire worse than the GH2 and it gets defended? Seems like a huge step backwards to me.

I agree with you, though. The moire is not pleasant and it DOES seem like a step back to me. Yet what can you do? There are improvements in other areas, I guess you have to pick and choose. I'm gonna stick with the GH2 for now and Blackmagic, in the case of the latter yeah there's moire but it's a small consequence Im willing to deal with for the huge gain in overall image quality.

I just think the tests we've seen here are very inconclusive. If that aliasing we see on the couch are definite, then take a look at this video. All sorts of patterns in there that resemble that couch

Canon dslr don't even shoot high definition...... Also if you want to compare aliasing and moire you can't , those Canons are horrible. GH3 has many many new functions that are king, do your research.

I honestly don't think the image is going to be THAT different between the 2 models despite the hyperbole being the fun way to go for a lot of reviewers. I remember the "GH2 KILLED the GH1 in low light", and now this one "KILLS the GH2"...hell, according to those statements: by now the GH3 should be able to see in complete darkness. The GH3 will be better iq wise...but the other things are probably more important for those looking to upgrade. The new codecs, the HDMI...usability, etc. Just my take.

Oh nah I wasn't responding to you. It was at the people who responded to my initial post. I didn't really need the camera and I have been waiting on a side by side test to see if I can't keep the money in the bank. With already having a GH2 and a MIII I personally don't see a point in taking such a huge hit in moire if I don't have to. The GH2 still works just as well.

OK I get that but I also have a GH2 which does almost the exact same thing as the GH3 with less moire so what am I really missing out on?

It's pretty much out there that moire is worse. I just stated my opinion on my buying decisions. That doesn't mean it won't be a great camera for you all tho. More power to you if you get one.
