What do you guys think is going on here?

So about a month ago I posted my DV500 camera for sale in the market place. About two weeks ago I got a PM from a new member who said he works for Roscor's used equipment division and he wanted to buy the camera from me. He works in Illinois but gave me his office number and the number of a contact at a San Jose TV station.

I called both numbers and eventually sent pictures to both people. After about three days the Roscor person (I won't post his full name in case this is a misunderstanding) agreed on my asking price of $1500 but said that he would have to make arrangements to pay me since his company doesn't use Paypal. He said he'll call his SJ contact and have the guy pay me instead. Fair enough, so I waited...

...and have been waiting for the past week. I called once a day to check on his progress but he keeps telling me that he has trouble contacting the guy; he then assures me that he "take care of it and call me back ASAP," which he never did.

Frustrated I decided to call the SJ contact and ask him myself. The guy picked up on the first ring (no trouble there). He told me that he doesn't work for Roscor and that he only inspects the equipment and had never made a payment on behalf of Roscor. I then asked him if he has been contacted by the Roscor person at any time in the past week and he told me no. So I was being lied to.

It's getting frustrating and I can't figure out what's going on. If it's a scam of some kind it makes no sense because I still have the camera and I'm not handing it over until I get paid. On the other hand I checked out the credential of both person and it's both legit.

Any thoughts?

my first impression is that its a total misunderstanding - maybe theres a middleman (employed by roscor or not) thats involved and one of the parties doesnt understand how this process works and your SJ contact doesnt actually purchase the cameras and just has them sent to him.

Just doesnt feel scammy enough for the reasons you mentioned - you still have the camera and no one has asked you to send it anywhere. My money is on miscommunication within Roscor.

Exactly. Scammers tend to move quickly, they don't drag their feet. They want that camera shipped as quickly as possible.

That makes sense. But what I really don't understand is the delay. Roscor is hardly a small-time company and you would think they would already have an established system in place in order to pay me. The other thing is the lack of contact. Tell me straight out that it'll take a week, two weeks and I have no problem waiting. But telling me that they'll "call me tomorrow" or "later today" and never did, that's the thing that pisses me off.

i wouldn't do business with someone who is giving me the run around. if it was legit he wouldn't be lying to you.

I wouldn't sweat it. I know you would like to get rid of it, but not get scammed. So do just what you're doing now- sitting on the camera, waiting for someone to buy. If he comes through, great. If someone else comes across with an offer, take it.

UPDATE

Finally found out what's been going on today. Turned out the guy is no longer interested in buying my camera. This would have been fine EXCEPT that I found this out from the SJ middleman instead of from him. In fact I haven't been able to reach the Roscor guy all week; believe it or not his office phone constantly give a busy signal and he seems to be the ONLY one listed in the Roscor used equipment division.

Seeing as this is no longer a misunderstanding I will post his full name here so that you guys can be careful if you have dealing with Roscor in the future. His name is Scott Kase and his user name on here is skase. Hopefully if you're trying to sell equipment you won't have to deal with people like this.
