Toss and turn? Sleep soundly? etc. Okay, not such a perverted question at all...My girlfriend and I have HAD it with our mattress...

Before I plunk a ton of money down on a mattress that will not serve us well down the road, I wanted to turn to you guys (and gals) to see what everybody else is sleeping on.

I've tried my brothers KINGSDOWN with a pillowtop. That is very sweet. I like the Tempur-Pedic. I like that as well...but I was wondering if the knock offs are a good trade off considering the TEMPUR-PEDICS price point. Any other homeruns?

Thanks in advance for the advice. Now if youll excuse me, Im going to take a nap...

Rick

Not to cross a line or anything, but I can promise you... If you want to continue to enjoy anything with your girlfriend in bed, DO NOT BUY A TEMPER-PEDIC.

I know they are nice to lay on and all, but dude... trust me...

I just guy a decent firm king size mattress. Then again, I'm an insomniac so for the few hours of sleep I get a night I could be laying on a brick and still sleep well.

Beds are for wimps! "Oh, look at the little baby, all curled up in his comforter and goose down pillows. Does baby want some warm milk before night-night?"
Listen here girly-men! It's all about conditioning yourself. NO, I don't mean air conditioning! Try sleeping on rocks for a year*. After that you'll be able to sleep on anything. :)

* I've never slept on rocks and I really love my bed and comforter. It's like slipping into a box of clouds every night. As far as what I do there.... that's just for me, my girlfriend, and anyone viewing the webcam to know.

I KNEW could count on you guys for feedback. Thanks so much!

TheYankee...because of your eye opening advice, ALL memory foam mattresses are OUT!

I'm checking the link out now!

I sleep on the floor.

I have a bed, but it's just too soft.

So, I just toss some blankets and some throw pillows on the floor and I fall fast asleep.

dne ehT.

This is what I sleep on.

Firm is better IMO. I had a futon and loved it. The cat wizzed on it, so it had to go (the futon that is). My little brother gave me his old mattress and I couldn't stand it, way too soft. So I put a 4x6 piece of plywood on top of the mattress and a piece of egg-crate foam on that. It's alright, but I really miss my futon.

My futon rocks but my pillows suck. If my cat pees on my futon or anything else in this house it is understood that he will be the first felne to experience zero g without a space suit!...Unless his lawyer can show he had a bladder infection. I slept on the floor for a long time with no grief, couches will do your back IN! I'm in to FIRM stuff when I go to bed:)

TEMPERPEDIC is the best in my book and they last. pay the price all others are not the same i've tried the others. i massage people for a living and tell everyone to do their backs a favor buy it. i worked at construction for 20 years i was an ironworker for 10 of those. you spend at least 7 hours in bed a day 5 to 6 sleeping and the beds have longevity. 20 years

Jeremy... we must be living parallel lives or something... I read the first post of this thread and I was planning to advise the VERY SAME THING.

Kimko... I have mad respect for you... I seriously think "you da' man" on DVXuser... but I gotta' disagree with you on this one... and this is why:

Between my girlfriend and I, we have a fair bit of friends and family for which we have house-sat. (that grammar sounds bad) And I've been in a couple of long-term relationships in which a bed preceeded me, was replaced by me, and was left by me. I've bought three expensive beds in my life... and I've slept on many types.

A tempurpedic foam mattress has ZERO bounce... I mean ZERO... Imagine trying to use a pogostick in quicksand... it's very inhibiting to the point of rediculous. If you have a spare bedroom complete with a spare mattress then the tempurpedic would be great to sleep on... My GF has a lawyer friend where she's watched the house several times... and I sleep GREAT on their tempurpedic mattress... and I feel great the next day... but we both laughed really hard everytime at how low the excitement must be in that marriage.

My best advice is to favor a FIRM mattress... personally I will try a Select Comfort for my next go around. My inner-spring mattress has been the same for 3 purchases now... A Simmons Beautyrest in the upper-mid levels... what is called retail has been about $1400, but you can negotiate a price just like buying a car... and the best I could get my current set for was $880 total... in queen sized. Accounting for inflation this is about what I've paid all three times... BUT I'm sick of my current mattress because either I got one that is too soft or my body is changing! It's TOO SOFT and my back is beginning to NOT like this mattress big time. It feels great when you lie down and I fall asleep quickly on it, but some mornings my back bothers me. The same mattress in FIRM or extra firm would have been great. Everybody that ends up on my bed loves it, but by morning the mattress seems too soft.
