what do u think abut this: Dedolight Light Stream?

Led can’t do heat. Led cob rarely cuts clean nor throws as well. Led tends not to be as soft as flo.

The fact that each type of light is only partially different from the next makes choices more complex than before. LED has proven easy, but damn

I'm saying HMIs require more skill and experience to operate, have more risks, and are more fragile due to having a bulb that can break. I have PAs handle my Litepanels Gemini on a regular basis and I'm not worried.

Well what's operating? It takes more skill to dive deep into a skypanel menu system vs. simply spotting or flooding. Except it definitely takes more skill to quickly add scrims, set up gel frames etc., all realistically part of using an HMI.

You're probably not using battery power for really powerful LEDs so risk is the same when looking at cables. The biggest risk probably comes from setting it up properly.

Re fragility, I don't see it. The Gemini wouldn't stand a chance in the rain. I see broken bulbs on HMIs as a plus. You actually have a chance to get it up and running again with a new bulb. If an LED goes down, for ANY reason, you're going to sideline the light - there are no running repairs, at least it's not a thing yet. Have you ever seen a broken bulb on set? How did it happen?

I understand your common scenarios though and completely get it, although I don't think an unknown PA should even be touching a gemini. Of course this changes if you've worked with them regularly. I just don't think it's fair to make such general statements when there's more to it, particularly with video production where it's often a case by case basis.

Push for the gaffer Eric, you deserve one!
