what compares with this "Lectrosonic" wireless lav system?

currently i have this system. when i bought it i think i paid around $1,150.00. now its almost $1,400.00 and not even in stock to buy if i wanted to.
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/592550-REG/Lectrosonics_100_Series_Wireless.html

the system sounds amazing and has been very reliable for the last few years. i dont even use my lav system that much but on a current project ive been doing ill need a 2nd comptetent system for the next few weeks. by the time i would rent another system for the duration of a project im on... i might be spending near 300-400 dollars so maybe there is something decent in the near 400-600 dollar range that would be worth buying instead of renting?

id like to get some opinions as to other brands and how they compare. "Sennheiser, Audio Technica...etc. i dont want a base station but rather two portable units...tranmitter & reciever fully wireless. the Lectrosonic sounds great and has very sweet/smooth limiters built in. in PP all i have to do is bring it in the mix...no EQ or adjustments are necessary usually. on this alternative system it doesnt have to have as long of a range as my Lectrosonic either. i just want something that sounds reasonably professional.

anyone? i need to make a move fast or i guess ill just have to rent again.

thanks all!

The link you provided is for a Lectro that uses the now-illegal 700MHz band. You can still get 100-series systems, and B&H has units in Block 24 in stock.

Honestly, the popular units from AT (1800 series), Sony (UWP-V1), and Sennheiser (G3) are not going to come close to the Lectro. Sennheiser has some higher-end units that may come close, but to compete with Lectro you're really looking at Zaxcom or other +/- $2k units.

That said, the Sennheiser G3 systems are amazing for being in the $600 dollar range.

i think im just going to rent a 2nd Lectrosonic system to match the one i already have. my concern is mixing and matching different systems and having to deal with a difference in sound in PP.

thanks for the advice on the Sennheiser's though, will try to check it out as soon as i can find one in town.

Well, the one you have operates in a band that the FCC has yanked from public use. You ought to contact Lectrosonics about having it modified so taht it's not in the 700MHz band.

The 100 series cant be re-blocked to a different freq range.
They will however do an exchange.

Really the best bet is to just try to sell it overseas on ebay or
any of the main consignment pages on the major audio dealers websites.

I still have 1 Lectro 411 system in the 700mhz range
and I plan on using it after the deadline and for as long as I get
no interference on it.

in my original post i copied (from B&H) a slightly different model than the one i have. i looked at the box and it says its a Block 22 and not B25 like on my original link. it is the 100 series though. does that make any difference?

you say they will do an exchange? do you know how much they would charge?

when is this FCC ruling supposed to kick in? what are the pros and cons to continue using my current setup?

im not really up to speed on what this exactly means. i can see i need to make some phone calls first thing tomorrow.

thanks!

this is a bummer for some people it seems.

Yea especially when all some peoples wireless were all in the 700mhz range.

I coulda continued to use all my 411's for many years to come
instead just to get up and running again I ended up losing about 6grand
outta pocket.

When companies spent billions buying that spectrum it woulda been nice
for the FCC to help people out a bit.
Hah..yea right.

There is more to this issue than getting interference on your mic system.

Since the 700 band is now been allocated to Safety and Emergency, your use of a 700mhz system may be causing interference with Safety and Emergency services, which is why the FCC has issued a cease use order.

I would hate to know that my film shoot has caused communication problems for Safety and Emergency Services.

If you're stepping on them you are going to realize it as well
in about 2 seconds and get interference on your end.
Its very easy to do a freq scan to see if something is going on on a particular
channel.

Our little 100mw transmitters barely have range to the end of a street
let alone a mile away..let alone 5 miles away..let alone..

Their towers and even hand held walkies are going to overpower
my little units and I feel confident that I would notice an issue before they would.
If I was in NYC or LA perhaps I would think differently
but for my situation I'll continue to use it for awhile.
