I'm planning to buy Canon 5D and I wanna know what CF card should I buy with it. I dont have much money... So I was wondering, Is there some 16GB or 32GB card which doesnt cost more than $60 and is suitable for shooting videos with 5D?

The 133x cards are even cheaper if you can find them - we have quite a few of both the 133x and 400x cards and have not had any problems so far.

I heard that when using non-UDMA cards you can have problems with overheating etc. But I have no experrience with it yet.

We run 5D2 cameras for long periods - like 2 hours at a time and have yet to have any over heating issues. I know others had problems with early firmware - I understood newer firmware fixed it - but I could be wrong.

I'd suggest going for the best quality card you can afford. When shooting on the 5D, the CF card is essentially your "film". You wouldn't buy cheap 35mm film, so don't skimp on quality. If you lose your data from that days shoot, you'll definitely regret it.

While I would agree, I think you first need to define how that 'quality' if measured. Many people simply throw out brand names (often the most expensive) as 'quality' but are merely repeating things they 'heard' or 'read' without really knowing what it all means.

Price alone is not enough to define quality, nor is anecdotal evidence without also knowing how many of each card type/brand was sold (which we're unlikely to even know).

So, before we go further, perhaps we need to define quality, what it means and how it's measured.

Very true. I should specify. By "quality" I mean obviously you want something specific to your needs when it comes to size and speed. Shooting HD on the 5D that'd be 12 minutes/4gb, so 8gb+ is fine, and anything faster than 133x to prevent buffering. Besides that, definitely go for UDMA, decent temperature tolerance to prevent overheating, durable build to not break, and preferably with some kind of manufacturer warranty.

Personally, I use the Sandisk Extreme Pro 16gb 600x, and I haven't had any problems with it.

Currently using the Lexar 8g UDMA 400x cards which are working perfectly. B&H was having a sale on them last month.

I prefer to have more 8g cards than only a couple of 32g cards as I will change them at least every day/scene during a shoot. Was having buffering problems with the 133x cards and experienced shutdowns on occasion. No problems with the faster cards.
