What Brand of Tape. . .

Hi, new to the forum & just bought my own DVX100A. . .Word at work where we have about 8 or so DVX100A's is to be consistent with the tape stock or it gums up the heads. We use the Panasonic AY-DVM63PQ 63 Minutes Mini DV Professional Quality Video Cassettes there. I've been totally inconsistent with my GL1 and for the last year plus have been buying the TDK "superior" something or other tapes in bulk at COSTCO. I've had no problems at all with that. Anyone have any good wisdom with MiniDV tape stock?

The most important thing is that you stick with the same tape stock. There is no perfect stock for all cameras, but most seem to like the Panasonic MQs in the DVX, but I've read many complaints about them in other cameras (usually "I switched from my Sony tapes to those expensive Panasonic ones and I had tons of dropouts- Panasonic sucks"- this is of course because of incompatible lubricants which you've no doubt read about) Anyways in your case I would recommend that you clean the heads of your GL1 and than get compatible with your work- that way you can use footage you shot on their equipment if needs be, without being blamed for some dirty heads because of cheap tapes.
