What are your Necessary DVX Accessories?

I'd like to say Hi and that my DVX100a should be arriving anyday now. ;D ;D
With all of the research I have been doing about the camera, I keep finding more and more great accessories to eventually purchase/make. I was wondering as a soon-to-be new user, what accessories in the context of your work/hobby do you feel are NECESSARY to shoot with your DVX100?

By the way, this site has been extremely helpful. Lots of good threads to read!

Re: What are your Necessary DVX Accessories?

Necessary:

tapes, dvxuser batteries, lens cleaner, a good mic with wind protection, good tripod with fluid head, good set of headphones

Not Absolutely Necessary but I use because they make life easier and my work better:

Mattebox with sidewings kit, rods system, follow focus, filters, remote room control, wireless rig, hotshoe mic mount system, gels for whitebalance techniques, hard case protection, etc

There's more but that's all I can think of right now...

Re: What are your Necessary DVX Accessories?

dg2l man, welcome to the group! There are a lot of threads on this subject already. But here are a couple of things. First a good tripod if you go Bogen a 503 or better head. I have a Sachtler DV2 and it rocks! A Matte box is always nice. The Cinetactics is a great deal if you are on a tight budget. I own that also. A Shoot gun Mic would be next the favorite around hear seems to be the Sennheiser Me66 with the K6 powering modual. A good wireless system, I have the Sennheiser Evolution 500 .
This is just a starting point. trust me it will never end. My wish list would give ol' Santa a stroke. But do your research on the site ther are plenty of opinions here, so start reading. And welcome once again1 8)

Re: What are your Necessary DVX Accessories?

I guess that "newbie" over on the left there kinda gives it away, huh? ;D b/c of budget I'm starting with basics and trying to educate myself properly for work with this camera without overkill. That seems too easy with all the stuff out there!

Thanks for the warm welcome and very specific answers!

Re: What are your Necessary DVX Accessories?

oh yeah, forgot that part... WELCOME TO YOUR NEW HOME!!! :)

Re: What are your Necessary DVX Accessories?

The 1st thing I bought was a decent UV filter [Multi -coat]!Extremely important! I opted to buy the DvRigPro stabilizer next for $599 and the Libec M20 tripod for $199[ cheapest tripod w/Ball leveler] Much prefer having these 2 babies than a $1000 tripod! Besides , when you are ready to move up to a Sachtler or Vinton tripod . You' ll have the Libec for 2nd cam! I then bought a B&W circular polarizer, and a Portabrace rain slicker as I shoot on the water regularly! Just ordered the ME-66 shotgun mic from Rush @EVS, and am borrowing as many wireless systems as possible to test before ordering [ Get Sennheiser Evolution or better ....maybe AT ..............The cheap ones will waste a lot of your time and your footage! Now I, m looking @ the on cam hard drive and steadicam devices..............Remember try to borrow from your friends before buying! Good Luck...Unclemort

Re: What are your Necessary DVX Accessories?

why the circular polarizer, and not a standard linear?
i know the daftness of the question is that the circular one can be used for anything.. :)

Re: What are your Necessary DVX Accessories?

That's right! You know what they say, "Once you've had 'circular', you'll never go back.".

You can dial in just the amount of polarization you need/desire. More control.

Re: What are your Necessary DVX Accessories?

:) well, you can rotate either of them, but the circular can be used on film cameras with a video assist lead, or digital slr cameras with an lcd display and such . definitely worth the money, but not neccessary for the dvx. overall id still say they are a better investement though. so i say go circular to begin with if you got the dough. .. cause it will be useful for anything that could come up..and .. well , why not?

Re: What are your Necessary DVX Accessories?

Does anyone use a standard linear polarizer on the DVX ?....................... I thought everyone was using the circular! Any posts I've seen regarding Polarizers !have only extolled the virtues of the Circular Polarizers ! {last 6 months Dvxuser,Cow & 2 Pop] What would you guys recommend as a 3rd & 4th filter to buy [ Overall General use? I guess the answers will start flooding in once eveyone has bought JARRED'S DVD !! which by the way is a pain in the ass if you use AOL and have forgotten your Paypal password.....!!? They make you type about 300 symbols , to get to the site to apply for a new password! I gave up after 4 tries! One day I'm gonna want that CD bad enough! Uncle Mort

Re: What are your Necessary DVX Accessories?

I hate friggin' UserNames & PassWords. They are the bane of my online existence. :-[

Re: What are your Necessary DVX Accessories?

Welcome dg2tlman from a fellow Newbie! I was just saying to Jarred we new'ins should have a board of our own with a veteran "chaperone" who will enjoy laughing as we make fools of ourselves and throw money down the drain (and may even stop us!!). I too have been wrestling with prioritizing purchases... The more effort you make, the more questions you have (Does that ever level off guys???) Anyway this site has kept me away from even peeking at porn for more days in a row than I can remember - what better compliment can one pay?...

Anyway, can someone recommend a place/link to buy one of those circular UV polarizers? Thanks!

depends on what you want to shoot.....

depends on what you want to shoot.....

Do your research, dvx equipment can be pretty expensive..Like if you are planning to shoot out doors, you should have some good filters/tripod w/fluid head maybe a graphite light one.weather cover for camera.shotgun mic..extra batteries. It all depends on what you want to shoot..The sky is the limit. I shoot action and surfing, so the batteries and polarizer, the lens 1.6 , i didnt need a mic since im just shooting surfing...recently been shooting out of a heli and was looking for a good stabalizer...with the doors off and the wind whoooshing around I found the steadi cam to be un steadi...instead of buying something expensive that didnt work , i used bungies to attach to my dvx and it was steady..smooth...so do some research.....good luck with your dvx....www.homepage.mac.com/gearman1

Re: What are your Necessary DVX Accessories?

I don't see the point of having a good set of headphones when the signal coming out of the headphone jacks on the DVX has so much noticeable noise.

Re: What are your Necessary DVX Accessories?

i dont have any noise issues at all with my dvx100 non a model. that really pends your mic, and headphone, and other audio setup though.

Re: What are your Necessary DVX Accessories?

The headphone line noise could be more pronounced on the A models. I saw a few posts in here referring to this noise. I wonder if anyone has both a non A and an A model and has compared. I noticed it on my A model.

Re: What are your Necessary DVX Accessories?

I have tried 2 rental A's here in the store, no noise. I think it really depends on the mic and the quality of the headphones too. Also, if the gain is turned way up, there's SHHHHHHH (white noise?) no matter what cam you use.

Re: What are your Necessary DVX Accessories?

My "A" has a considerably high noise floor in the headphone outs... that's with an ME66, wireless, etc. Also with good AKG studio phones as well.... good thing it doesn't get laid to tape as such.
