What are you waiting for!

I here ya Kdawg.....

I am strange like that...its the saleman/evangelist in me. If something works for me I want to tell everybody about it. My problem is when I think I have figured it out and told the gospel I get miffed on why anyone wouldn't want to follow me.

Its is part of the reason why no one leaves my studio without signing. If they do I want to know why. If the Why is within my means to fix then I am fixing it.

If I was just doodling around with family video of my son and stuff I could probably understand. But when something can pay for itself and more including your current DVX100 Why not make money.

I like money ...do you like money....I like sex do you like sex? its a no brainer..

If you are good with your DVX100 why limit it to a hobby. I am not saying to go out and get a bank loan and finances a business. But if the gear has potential to pay for itself, generate profit, make you happy utilizing your creative gifts and have other people praise you for your creative gifts as well as learn and improve upon your abilities and opportunities... Did I mention and allow you to keep your day job...Jess

As the thread is entitled ...What are you waiting for.

you can read my threads in this forum (which I appreciate so much Jarrard and clan thank you for the information and community you have created that has been my main source of information over the years) and see my development. I am just scratching the surface of opportunities but it didn't happen overnight but the gear has paid for itself.

So join my pyramid scheme and make money using your dvx100 and then take advantage of this HD revolution.

I am not this weird in person I promise :^)

Not true (if your in Corpus, that is).

I'm in Dallas, I get calls from corpus at least once a month, and my lowest wedding starts at $1500.

Your not advertising the right places, my friend.

Or not marketing to the low end client creatively. A $300 quince could generate a few thousand in sales.

It is stupid to buy SD in this day and age.

There is a syndrome among the computer industry (of which I have
been a part for too many years) known as "Premature Optimization".

Software developers are particulary prone to this affliction - however,
it can strike hardware designers also.

It can be described as "fixing problems that are not yet known to exist".

I think that, for most people, HD falls into this category.

Can your client view HD? Will shooting in HD pay for its overhead? (Not
just equipment but labor also.) Can you produce an end product in HD
that you will be happy with? (I know, some of you are thinking "Duh?"
about that last question.) If so, great, shoot in HD.

Otherwise, follow the rule of "don't buy gear on maybe".

Buy gear as required by the project - until then, the money could be
earning interest and you aren't losing the depreciation on the gear.

My 2 cents.

Okay I will answer these questions yet again... Please bear in mind that I am doing this already not speculating.

Can your client view HD?

Yes my clients can watch HD on a decent computer. It doesn't cost anything more than producing a DVD. Simply Encode in WMVHD on copy onto a regular DVD9 as data. It is surprising how many customers try this DVD on their computers.

Bluray BWU-100a is a 50GB drive that is already available that allows you to burn HD disks. this drive come with the software to author menus.

I do provide the master miniDVs to the customer and the NLE files for future upgrade to HD media.

Most clients interviewed already have and HD capable TV when the decks are available which they are currently selling. Customer will want to complete that entertainment investment and get the HD player. Knowing that their precious memories is ready in this format closes the deal.

Will shooting in HD pay for its overhead? (Not
just equipment but labor also.)

This question always confuses me when the price of and FX1 is in the same range as a DVX100B. It would be more convenient to have faster computers but not necessary and most NLE software already supports HD with at most an upgrade price. As far as labor is concerned for me there isn't any other charge. In fact my labor is cheaper because I used to hire guys with their own cams. Now I hire students and provide the cam for them and teach them the wedding game.

Can you produce an end product in HD
that you will be happy with?

Yes I am producing HD weddings that I am ecstatic about. could of draw backs with WMVHD is no menus or chapters.

The whole thing is about HD is if your footage is HD you can easily drop down to SD. This is what is really the selling feature for Weddings because the couple can not re shoot the wedding. So just know that the footage is HD and having a sample or proof of the quality in WMVHD is a deal closer for me. consider that my price For now is only $500.00 more than what is was before and I am still cheaper in most cases than the photographer. Side note the quality is so high that I can print viable pictures from the video footage.

I would think if your producing a documentary that you would want the best footage that you can afford right.

If you invest in a FX1 type cam which is a very good cam B&H price 3,149.95 or better yet A1U $ 2,799.95 or how about the mighty HVX200 $ 5,499.95 compared to the DVX100B which is the best SD cam your going to get for the money at $ 3,499.95.

I use and love the A1U and would shoot with it (day light) any day before I shoot SD.

If your computer can handle SD well than it can handle HDV. It will be slower but fast render is a luxury not a necessary. Deliver WMVHD, Quicktime media 7, DIVXHD they are all great. I would rather have compressed HD than SD.

See for yourself http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/musicandvideo/hdvideo/contentshowcase.aspx

But if you want to complete the chain buy a BWU-100a B&H price of $749.95 that comes with software to author and you can hand in your product in HD 5 times the resolution of SD. BLuray is not going anywhere...and unfortunately neither is HD dvd. waiting to buy will save you a few hundred in the price and maybe a faster burn time, (provided that this drive works). A 50GB media will store 4 hours of HD content. Believe it or not some of my videos are up in the 3 hours range of total content.

Is it really that much more money?

So lets look at it this way....

How much would is cost you to invest in time, labor, editing and back office work shooting in SD and not being able to sell the product when its finished 2 years later because the station says "sorry we are completely HD...can you reprint in HD?" and your answer is no and you can't sell your work because everyone else’s story looks better.

If you shot on a $2800.00 HDR-A1U the same project you could say "no problem I will go back to the raw footage and have a HD version for you in 1 week.

Why would you want to limit your options?

Buy gear as required by the project - until then, the money could be
earning interest and you aren't losing the depreciation on the gear.

Try thinking a bit more entrepreneurial-- what if the gear changed the requirements of the project and raised the bar of your respect, value and longevity because you were smart enough to on top of the quality game instead of behind it.

Your customer could brag about you when comparing your product to their competition. " Well my product was shot in HD what was yours shot in" the key to success is to make you boss or client look good.

all of this for a few hundred dollar investment...? is it really that hard to see?

Buy my guide to success with HD for only 50 monthly payments of only $19.99.... if you order today you can get 4 ...yes you heard it 4 for the price of one..call now...
