Anyone have any good tips or settings for getting better Low Light Performance out of there DVX?

I shoot a lot of weddings, and when the lights go off I get a lot of noise.I try my best, but as soon as I have to put the gain to med or hi...

any suggestions for a situation where Lighting my subjects is not a option?

TIA

Have you considered getting an onboard light for your camera? It wouldn't light up everything, but you'd get more light on you subjects close up and could eliminate the need to change the gain.

What are mode are you shooting in? I've noticed that 24p and 24pa seem darker than 30p and 60i. Out of 30p and 60i, 60i seems to be the lightest. The problem there is that if you use 60i you can't really use squeeze mode (just doesn't look the greatest imo).

Thats really all I can think of. Good luck!

Yea i learned by trial and error dont do squeeze and 60i you get lines and not the best quality the DVX can do...

If you have 24p at a shutter speed of 1/24, it's about the same brightness as 60i at 1/60. But you lose some of the cinematic motion cadence and it looks more video-ish.

Thanks, I do use 24P, which is not really necessary for a wedding, I will try 30P and a shutter of 1/30 i guess.

I have used 60i with squeeze and never noticed any interlacing artifacts before.. I do have the 3rd gen DVX though, perhaps its fixed on it?
