What are you listening to now ?

^Not a big zepplin fan but I love that ripping bass sound on this one. Great band all around.

//Back when. Thanks Grove Chuck. That is a pleasure to listen to.

^ So good. Anything by M83 is phenomenal listening. Another band like that is The Mars Volta who have the honor of releasing the greatest album in the past 10+ years..

Towards the end he's playing what I think is a B3 and a maxi moog on top? Been awhile.
edit: 5:18: That's a maxi moog and strongly guessing a B3.

Looks like a B3 to me. Sounds like one too. I love all those old keyboards. I almost grabbed a genuine B3 from a church until I found out how much maintenance those old things take. I got put in touch with a guy who can maintain them and it was going to cost hundreds a year to maintain. Every key has its own tonewheel, that's a lot of parts to go wrong. Hammond have a new keyboard that simulates the old components similar to how reason emulates the circuitry of vintage equipment and it sound great but it costs 5 figures to get the whole shebang. And it only does hammond. I've settled on nord electro series as the best option, the hammond sound isn't bad and the rhodes is fantastic. You get the whole suite of vintage keys, clavs, rhodes, several hammonds. Plus it's own sounds and very affordable on clearance. I don't even play keys but I love those vintage sounds.

B3's are rare. Most are rentals now. Even concert bands use rentals. I had a technical manual for the B3 and yes it was mostly all mechanical with tone wheels. They changed the shape of the wheels over time so some sounded better than others. Still, they remain the best sounding organ to this day.

I had a Wurlitzer 73 which is similar to a rhodes but a cleaner sound. Super Tramp is a good example. Also on the Faces-A Nod is as good as a Wink album used one as well. It's sound really depended on what amp you used also.

I once had the pleasure of using a C3 for a few months, in-house keyboard. Can't say I used it because I was <20 yrs old and just wasn't my thing. If I knew what I know now, I might have tried to steal it. Hahaha. Those things are rare. Keith Emerson used one.

edit for prosperity: Keith Emerson, in his early days, upgraded the speaker and horn in his Leslie. He amped it with a Hiwatt. That was back in the Tarkus days. Really biting sound.

edit: again: Leslies, being notoriously hard to mike, he would put his Leslie under the stage for miking. They do have a cool sound. Most of it came from the horns.
A good example of Leslie horn miking , to me, was Uriah Heep's early live performances. You can really hear it in this one.

...
Anyways...

Wurlitzer 73. I don't think they ever made an 88. Not to my knowledge.
