@ gord : yep. been livin here for 6 years.

@ richard : the main ingredient has to be one of the best albums ever released :)

OH Yeah. Absolute Banger!! I'm at work and can't post youtube videos.
But "Straigten' it out" and "Reminice" are two of the hottest tracks ever made IMHO.

Fine. I don't know NY or this music but this sounds alright. It's kind of hard for me to relate to from my end you understand. I'll never get you guys and all that hard city shi*.

//NY life I mean. It's just odd from my perspective. lol.

LOL. Hip hop is like the WWE anyway.

Pete Rock & C.L Smooth "They reminesce Over You".

Yeah, geez, I must say that's a good song.
I've played it about 30+ times now. It's just a good song.
I won't say that this is the kind of music I'm usually into but
I had to chime back in and say yeah, that's a good song. It's so well done in every way.

Thanks for the head up. Not normally something I'd stumble across.

The Odds, "Truth Untold." I haven't listed to these guys in a while, when I randomly found them shooting a music video at lunch today. I didn't catch the name of the song, but I did see they were using a couple of 5Ds for the shoot.

My high school students keep me in the music loop but my wife tells me I'm too old to listen to groups like this. What I am I supposed to do? Listen to The Doors for the rest of my life?

Yes. I also need to keep in touch with 'new' music and try to stay in touch with what's happening. But your wife has a valid point. You also owe it to yourself to offer your students the adult world of music and it's history, imo.

I'm not even talking about blues history here in this post. More of a jazz and classical snapshot as I have it.

Here's some posts I've made previously in this thread. I would hope these are all considered 'adult'. If your not familiar with any or all of these, now's your chance.
Again, imo.

I have, and there is, more, ofcourse. It's nice to be broad in your listening as possible, imo. So yeah, your wife may have a point :)

(The Pogues are last because that age group might be debatable. I tossed them in anyways because they seem at least younge-adult to me and I like them.)

I like carmel city & Sun won't come out. The whole thing is bomb.

I just found a tape cassette of Outkast's southernplayaliisticcadillacfunkymusic. Loved that one too, but didn't like the rest of their work.

Got my hands on a good one today, by little dragon. Never heard of them before. Sounds scandinavian, but the vocalist is sick. I'll look for the link real quick... there it is

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmP2ULBJGYQ&feature=player_embedded#at=52

I've only heard this one, don't wanna look into the rest for a coupla days, this is too good.

I have no idea what I listen to these days, it is a bit of everything. Volver still drives me mad, I spent a couple of years under the impression penelope cruz sang, till i found out about estrella morente. I'm in love. She's fantastic.

Greymog. Beirut, Lebanon? Are you kidding me? Do you live there now or is that where your from?

you sound excited :) have you been? Trying to make movies here it's a nightmare. Power is out 6 hours a day regularly and our internet is 56k. Still.

I'm in Jordan visiting family and making up for the lost time. It's weird, Jordan's INCREDIBLY hooked up these days, to the point where they're building crazy weapons, but it's so conservative. Whereas Lebanon is like living in the forties, but it's the wildest, and one of the most liberal towns I've lived in. I can compare my neighborhood in beirut to Alphabet City.

I'm Egyptian originally, mother's Palestinian, I went to school in Paris/NY.

Where are you from? This is a fun thread

@Greymog. Hehe, yeah. I can't quite (I'll try) explain why the fact that your from Lebanon interests me other than maybe growing up as a Canadian since, say 1959, it's been in the news a few times as I grew up. Born and raised in Ontario. Spent some time in Alberta and Mexico. That's it though. Back home in Ontario again.

It interests me I suppose because I've never met anyone from there before.
I know nothing about it other than the political/war stuff that's happened in the past.
And you know that's always biased.

So being able to talk to someone first hand kind of blows me away. 10 or 20 years ago that was unheard of. And to meet you here on dvxuser is even better.

Maybe your doing films or something that we can watch. I'd love to get some better insight into your country and everyday life and lifestyle.

Beruit used to always be in the news here. So it's really cool to meet someone that I can talk to and learn more about what it's like there.
From a real person living there. Not from a politician, haha. Right?

Not saying I don't listen to or expose my students to a wide range of music. In fact, I'm primarily a jazzhead who recognizes the fact that the best music has to offer usually requires patience and a commitment from its listeners.

I happen to have been fortunate enough to have had a General Music teacher in junior high who spent 90% of our time teaching us the history of Jazz and spinning LPs that he histrionically stowed in their sleeves, which were then carefully placed in Tower Records bags. How many of my former classmates now listen to Jazz? I don't know, but I do know that it takes a talented educator to inculcate a love for challenging music.

I guess my point is that a lot of adults dismiss newer music, thinking their generation's is somehow Better or More Important. It's not at all. Sure, there's a ton of crap out there. Was and will be. However, there are artists building on what they respect and love, furthering the creativity, and yes, the teenagers who sometimes baffle us are listening to them. And if we appreciate good music, we should too.
