What are you listening to now ?

Sheryl Crow- version of Beatles-Hear comes the Sun.
I love how she puts in those little upward pitch bendings, those little rythmic wobbles, so cool.
Solid voice.

//Actually I know what it is. In the 70's, keyboard players using a moog used to use the pitch bender during solos in much the same way. That's what it reminds me of. 70's mini moog solos.

@Timur: Nice variations in selections there.

Jack Penate: Can't sing. He can speak in the proper pitch. Can't sing.

Warren G. : Geez, I dig it man. Can't sing, again, speaks all over the place, but I can dig it, it's rap.

I know, who asked? Just saying. Nobody actually 'talks' about music in this thread, do they? Anyways, cool.

edit: much later: Don't mind me. I don't think men can sing. They talk or yell. That's what they do. Thier men. But they can't sing. No offense intended. :)

So you are saying Michael McDonald cannot sing? I don't know, his three part harmonies with himself on Steely Dan's "Peg" seem like a pretty good imitation of singing to me!

I know, it's from the 70s but hey, he is a guy who can really sing. But I am with you, I much prefer female singers overall.

ehhhh, to a point. There are situations where men can sing, very rarely.
One example is Steve from the early Kansas days where he really is singing , and with consideration, maybe Paul McCartney from some of the beatles tunes.

Yeah, so, there are exceptions. Mike, ummm, that's a tough one. He's really good but I'd have to hear something specifically to call that one. Off the bat, I'd say no, another talker. Shoot me a link if you like and maybe sway my opinion.

-Cheers:

//edit: didn't want to bump. This is one case where I consider a man singing to be truley singing in the true sense of the word.
More than just talking or yelling. Anyways, my opinion. Your welcome to trash it, haha.

Decided to try and back my claim that men can't sing. (Do we care? Naw. I like yelling and screaming myself. I've done it myself, sort of. But I got myself into this, so, I've been looking for female singers to prove my point about 'singing'. And, it' doesn't take alot of work.
Here's a few examples. (Hope dvxuser doesn't mind about the links. Consider this 'history' education.) That's how I see it anyways. And no, I don't listen to this music at home. I listen to mostly males screaming and yelling. So, there ya go. Anyways... getting back to the girls that smoke us all:

u2m One: with Mary J. Blige. She kicks the - out of this song. Begins at around 1 min.

Currently reviewing music for a family holiday get together.

Really loving Sting's "If on a Winter's Night". Haunting, beautiful. I have always liked Sting as an artist.

'Gabriels Message' was interesting (I heard it on youtube just now) from the 'If on a Winters Night' album. It struck me as being more of an operatic piece. And the voice I was imagining singing it was Sarah Brightman. In that sense I think Sting nailed it.

I would have rather heard her sing that song than him though.
But he has the gift of music, no question.

//well here you go. A little Sarah. She would have done a great job with Stings song. (I've posted this before.:))

Wow,

I love "Ave Maria" sung like this. And such a visual!

I heard the Vienna Boys Choir sing this once live a long time ago, and it brought tears.
