What are you carrying your 7Q with?

Hi Everyone,
I know some of you have been sharing your solutions to different issues or preference but I thought why not make a designated thread for that purpose.
I guess my idea was to share for creative ideas.

My carrying solution at the moment looks like this:

20140311_232816.jpg20140311_232843.jpg20140311_232918.jpg
Its home made as you can see but its small and really lightweight and it fits in my lowepro x300 rollerbag :) Did I mention it was really cheap?
model: Tekno 2003M + the filling from the box you get with your Oydssey 7Q.

Im a big fan of light weight solutions like gene_can_sing who also have been sharing his fs700 light-weight solution.

When it comes to powering my 7Q i do this mainly from the actual battery that supply my camera with power.

With the right DC-plugg and the cable from convergent-design I was able to manufacture a cable to do just what I wanted to do. From a test I did I was able to get aprox 1 hour (to be on the safe side) of use of the battery I mentioned before I got a warning that the Voltage was to low.

Whats your solution?

I have two Think Tank Airport backpack in different sizes. I use one of those small laptop (aka notebook) padded soft cases. I cut up a sheet from a yoga matte that I folded for extra padding, then I keep the 7Q in it's original styrofoam yoke that goes inside the soft case and in-between the yoga matte. Which then goes in the laptop part of the Think Tank Backpack

I keep my cables and a small 3 inch 15mm rod (which I use for my 7Q rig) inside the laptop bag as well just to keep things together.

It works well, is quick to take out / put away and it's one less thing I have to carry since it goes in the Think Tank.

Do any of you guys use the convergent design batteries? How do you mount them? Right now I'm just using tape, but there's gotta be a better way....

I need to retest using that swit. I have the same one and I just recall reading something about not being able to use hfr and 7q off a swit same time as camera? Too much draw? Can't recall but this has reminded me to watch out for that :)

Hfr is a battery hog anyway. I'll probably work with the swit powering the 7q from the back of the f700, but run a vmount into the fs700 power port

I'm using a Pelican 1400 case. It has the depth needed for both the CD L-Series Battery Plate and the Westside AV hood, with enough space on the side for 2 970 batteries and eventually more SSDs on the side.

I like having one case to carry all the things I need to run the 7Q.

I also use the Pelican 1400. Mine has most of the foam hollowed out, so most of the stuff is just scattered in there. On the bottom, I put my CineCoil, some handles that I can clip onto the sides of the monitor (I bolted some Berkey blocks to the side 1/4-20's), D-tap cable, SSDs. I wrap the 7Q in a Domke wrap and it fits in fine. The back is to the "junk" and nothing is under pressure. Seems to be working out fine!

You know what.. the test I did just included low framerate recording.. Through I know I have been using it to do HFR as well but just for a short while. So while I know it can supply both I dont know for how long will test later today..

Ive been looking at Olofs 7Q hood but my issue with it is that I want it to be really simple and fast to dismount, having 4 small screws to look after when I don want the hood on might not be what im looking for (but for those who's looking to keep it on most of the time it looks really nice :)

Peli 1450. Room for 7Q, visor, hood, power options and up to 6 SSD's. Olof's hood is good as it acts as screen protector (no need to take it off) and I attach a Camraid visor onto that for bright sunlight.

Ohh btw I bought a screen protector from Pro K Solutions and to be honest, not the best built.. For some retarded reason they added text on the actual screenprotector so if you dont match it up PERFECTLY it will make the text on you actual screen look wierd.. and you only get one copy.. that annoys me, its a cheap plastic film. at least give me 2 if something happens.

it costs 35 usd so its not a fortune but still.

Has anyone gone with just leaving the protectiction from cd on? I mean its there already and fits.. Does it degrade the image or anything?

There is a very simple mod I can do for you, to quickly remove the hood.

Instead of allen screws I supply you with thumb screws and instead of holes in the hood I mill slots, so you just loosen the thumb screws (leaving them on the Odyssey) and slide the hood off. I tried this in beta testing, but my testers preferred the more permanent protective solution.

It is even possible to make small "springs mechanisms" so you simply slide the hood on and off the springs hold it in place.

I can do these mods for you when you order, and if they get popular I will produce them, but at this point everyone has been happy to leave the hood on for protection.

You can PM, phone or email me and we can discuss your needs. I always try to improve my kits and like feedback and ideas. I have always done a bit of custom work, many times for no extra charge. If you want slots and thumbscrews, there is no extra charge. Spring mechanism is a bit more complex.

The protective screen cover from Convergent Design IS the protective screen cover from ProK Solutions. They make it for us. We ship the Odyssey7Q with a screen cover in place. Buy one from us through our dealers or from ProK and you get a replacement cover, exactly like the one you already have. The idea is to remove the one one the unit if the cover gets damaged and then replace it with a fresh one, not to double them up.

Here's our case, which will be available to purchase through our dealers in a few days. It's based on a Nanuk 910 case, which is tiny. We use a rigid foam, and the cutout for the Odyssey has removeable layers so that it can fit an Odysey alone, one with one of our standard battery backs, one with an Ocean Video Enduo back or a Nebtek back, or even an Odyssey7Q with our Teradek battery complete with the two Teradek Bolt receivers mounted. The side pocket area is big enough for several batteries, SSDs, cables, download adapter, AC power supply, etc. There is also room on top of it all to fit our collapsible sunshade, which will be available soon.

It is product CD-OD-CASE and the list price is $150.

I guess the definition of a good screen protector is one so subtle that you don't even know it's there!
