Secondly, I just wanted to know what specs everyone has for their CPU. And of course who makes it. Be as specific as possible, please. I'm looking to upgrade and need some feedback.
Torrance,
Don't know if it will help much, but I'm using Vegas4.0e with a P4 1.8 processor and a gig of ram. Soyo Dragon ultra motherboard (In the future, I'd only go with an Intel chipset mobo however). Radeon 8500 video card.
A dated system by today's standards (it's 2 years old), but it works.
If you are upgrading, you can get good deals on P4 3.0gz chips and mobos with Intel 865 or 875 chipsets. Go with at least a gig of high quality ram. I like Windows 2000Pro, but many folks have good luck with XP.
Have fun!
Ken
Here is a quick spec of my system that works well with Vegas 5:
Pentium 4 3.0 ghz HT Preston (large cache)
1gig Kingston Hyper X cas2 333mhz ram
Nvidea 5200 dual output video card (for dual monitors)
Pioneer A07 8x DVD burner
520GB Serial ATA drives (120,200,200)
Biggest thing I would suggest when upgrading is get the best and biggest power supply you can get, most problems I have experienced stemmed from having not enough power.
I make my systems.. usually upgrade every few months. ITs great because I have a few full blown PC's kicking around that now can use the Vegas Network rendering engine so I dont have to sit around for 4 hours twiddling my thumbs as my main system is stuck rendering a project.
Intel P4 2.8Ghz with hyperthreading
P4C800-E mboard
1 gig Matched Kingston PC3200 RAM
1 60gig Maxtor IDE for the system drive
2 120gig SATA drives for A/V work
1 firewire 120gig Maxtor for backups
Pioneer A05 DVD-R/RW burner
1 Sony DVMC-DA2 media converter, translates firewire out to RCA video out.
I export my video signal to an NTSC monitor.
Generally, with 4 video and 2 sound tracks, I can view my 24P footage at 15fps in preview mode. Hyperthreading really helps.
