I'm probably about to buy JVC's GY-HD101E (in Australia) but would like a couple of questions answered first.

What are the minimum (wide) and maximum (telephoto) focal lengths of their stock lens (Th16x5.5BRM) ? I can't see this info on the JVC website.

What are these focal lenths in equivaent terms to a 35mm format camera?

Also what does it mean when people refer to a lens "breathing"?

The information you seek about the focal length is in the lens designation 16x5.5

The convention is that 16 is the range of the zoom (a 16x zoom meaning if you divide the wide focal length into the long you get 16)

5.5 is the wide focal length in mm,

5.5 mm X 16 = 88 mm tele

Breathing is a change in image size when focusing the lens. It is particularly annoying when it occurs at shorter focal lengths. It looks like the lens is being zoomed.

It is a function of lens design. Minimizing breathing requires a more sophisticated and therefore expensive mechanism than the one in this lens.
