I am in the midst of making a short film for a contest provided by a college for money and possibly scholarship opportunities. The theme of the contest is, "what does America mean in the world today?

So far I have shot an interview with a knowledgeable peer in my class with mostly an army/military background, and an interview with my boss at work who has more of a liberal kind of background. I have also shot some b-roll so far including just a time lapse of a barn and i shot in a wal mart parking lot for a good 15 minutes today which also may be turned into a time lapse. Tomorrow I have lined up another interview with an American History teacher and I'm in real high hopes the foreign exchange student from Spain will be down and okay with doing an interview as well.

I'm kind of in need of some inspiration now for some more possible B-roll footage i could shoot along with anything else you film makers may suggest.

Thanks in advance!

b roll footage ideas

Vending machines,
coca cola bottles
anything that grabs your interest at an interview site
people places things. When in doubt, shoot it.

try archive.org - they have a lot of public domain footage and period footage that is great for these types of projects. I had to do a project about Japan and needed A-bomb footage- they had plenty. You should be able to get about anything you need- from audio to video to stills. Just remember to properly attribute your footage...
