What am I missing?

Alright so I want to know how to get rid of all the lines and choppyness I'm getting.

In final cut hd (4) I exported the video using the following:

H.264

29.97 Framerate

Quality slightly under medium

Encoding: Best quality

Data Rate: automatic

Size 640x480 VGA

Clicked on Deinterlace Source Video...


HELP!!!!!
 
Final Cut Pro or Final Cut Express?

Exporting to Quicktime Movie or Compressor?

What did you film in? 60i, 30p, 24p, 24pa?

If you shot in one of the 24p modes you might have to do a reverse telecine on your footage.....one possibility.

If you started complaining about how ugly you were I'd still have to ask is this was your Mother telling you this or if this was the ugliest girl in your junior high school telling you this.

Get a grip on yourself and tell us the issue without being stupid about it.

I mean... Lines and Choppyness??? You are that stupid?

Video is MADE of lines... and will only show still pictures moving at a certain rate per second. So... if you want to get right down to it I see lines and choppyness everytime I go to the movies!!!

How am I supposed to know what you are actually seeing and then you ask us to FIX it for you? Dumb -- plain DUMB!

You should post a picture or 10 seconds clip so people can help you out better. It just makes sense to show some evidence.

By "lines and choppyness" I assumed he meant he was getting interlacing.

"final cut HD (4)" I assumed he might be on the recently updated FCE 4 (not FCP 4.0)...this would only really come into play if he were editing on a 23.98 timeline (or trying to, with his 30p, 24p or 60i footage).

"H.264" I figured he's going out to the WEB.

"29.97 Framerate" he either shot it in 30p or is on a 29.97 timeline (or both).

"Clicked on Deinterlace Source Video". NOW, if he's going out to the WEB (again, we don't know and I'm assuming) and he shot in 30p (progressive signal) then there would be no need for this, right? He shouldn't have to worry about this because he shot progressive and may be just going out to the web, where there's no interlacing like TV.

Now Captain, my captain, it might be a little unfair of you giving the tongue lashing. Not everyone in these forums KNOWS the proper terminology. A little over a year ago I was a fresh 'newbie' and was a little afraid to post questions thinking I might not phrase them in the proper lexicon. In your defense, it is true, it would be nice if questions asked in posts were more succinct AND I may have made improper assumptions in trying to read between the lines (and choppyness).
 
Don't get scared off MGPMatt, this is a great site! I think the captain was just having a bad day. That's the first time I've seen a post like that on here, and I expect the moderators will probably take it down, it doesn't help in anyway.

Now -- if the video really IS choppy... (what I WOULD consider choppy) then something is seriously wrong with his/her setup and needs our attention. However, from the short and 'smart' posts going up from this person I really don't think they care.

Just a little militaristic forum slapdown from your friendly neighborhood Captain.

I used the term "Lines and Choppyness" because that was the best way to describe the look that I was getting. I thought a link to the video was provided but after reviewing the post I must have forgotten it, which was dumb.

I have read a lot of redundant questions on this board with a less then helpful information to describe their situation. I felt what I was providing was good enough:

A link to view the video with it's issues (again now realizing it wasn't there)
What I use to export.
My settings.
Which version of FCP I was using.

CaptainMench, I've seen you handle a lot worse questions with more restraint and maturity then how you acted in this post. If you're tired of answering the same questions or are feeling so frustrated that you feel it's more important calling a total stranger dumb/ugly in a post where they were looking for help, you should not waste your time typing an answer or at least try to represent yourself in a positive manor, instead of making yourself seem like just another sad forum junkie who only gets joy from ripping people apart for knowing less then they do. Now I have read tons of your other posts and I do not think you are the above mentioned 'sad forum junkie' but the manor in which you responded to my posts definitely gives off that persona. You're not the only capable person in this forum that can answer questions, and I did not seek your personal guidance. It was a general question that chstcik at least had the maturity to help me with properly.

Yes we all get frustrated and have bad days, but that is never an excuse. In your case I'd suggest distancing yourself as far away from a computer as possible when you're upset. Maybe go murder some kittens or some other sadistic act that will keep you balanced and able to post on a forum with some class.

Since I don't want you to have to step down any more levels and deal with anymore of my dumbness I'd appreciate it if you'd stay away from anymore questions I post.

Yes -- more often than not people need a wake-up slap. Sadly, not enough people give them. I enjoy that role here.

1. My post let's you know you were out of line to be so rude, you have the ability to ignore emails you consider unworthy of your time,:happy: instead of adding negativity

2. This is a great site and I don't believe a "Senior" member should verbally abuse a new member.

Call me old fashion, but a certain level of tact is to be expected.

I think the abuse happens in Film Schools when teachers get paid based on how many students they can churn out... not on the success of their students. THAT's child abuse at its worst!

And again... I must remind you all -- I'm not abusing the person... I'm helping them get help!!! Anyone remember editing without air conditioning? People are too lax these days. (not the OP here... but in general.)

What in the world? Who *demanded* *YOUR* free "consulting"? Who says this is your JOB or you have some responsibility to respond? This is an INTERNET forum for people to ask for help and get help. If you want to volunteer your help... awesome! If not, that is fine too. This post was better off before you butted in.

If you wanted to make the point that he should add more details - which certainly isn't a bad point, don't get me wrong - you could have said so in a helpful and kind way.

If he knew the correct terminology or how to phrase it, or that "lines and choppiness" isn't a helpful description, chances are he would have been experienced enough not to need help in the first place...

Questions like this and helping people out as a community are one reason these forums exists, so try to actually HELP in your posts. That doesn't mean you can't correct... but don't be a jerk. And no one here asked for your input let alone demanded your "consulting"...
 
By the way Mench I love your tutorials and you make good and true points. I guess I was just surprised/offended/dissapointed at your attitude and harsh tone... :(

So according to your post above start apologizing. Feeling dumb would be saying you didn't do something and then having it in writing on the page before. :) Everyone can see for themselves if they look at page 1. :)
