What am I doing wrong?

Hey!

Is there a setting on the DVX or on final cut that is causing that odd motion effect (lines during movement) . The Manaul said to swith to thin or med when shooting 24p , however I still see the lines?

Also I bought an external camera mounted mic, cant figure how to get that work. The Manual is pretty useless. Barry's book can't get here too soon!

Sorry, it's really my first day using the camera.

Thanks!

Ray

If you're shooting in 24P, there's going to be a "strobing/jitter" effect if you pan, or move the camera too fast. When you get Barry's book, you'll read how fast you can and cannot go to avoid the strobing...

Turn off the image stabilizer and move the camera slower, or switch over to 30P.

When panning, are you actually focused (No pun) on something or are you just panning around ?

Plug mic into Input-2 and select CH-2

Sometimes when viewing in Final Cut, the image in rendered such that playback is not what would normally appear.

This is so that the image can apply all effects and filters and play in real time. Try exporting a short clip, and see if your problem persists.

I think you're referring to interlacing. So what probably happened here is that you captured the progressive (full frames, not interlaced) 24P footage from the DVX, but when you exported from FCP you selected interlaced and so you still got interlaced video.

At least that's what those lines were on the YouTube video you linked to.
