I've got Final Cut Studio, I acptured the clips from my p2 off the HVX into FCP in DVC PRO HD 720pn. I edited the clip and then rendered it out with the same settings to Quicktime. In the final product, the window displays letterbox format with black bars and the picture looks compressed. What did I do wrong? and can someone help me? I looked in previous posts and was unable to find an answer to this question. Thanks in advance for any help!:(:)

Not new to FCP, but new to HD in FCP. Don't think I have an anamorphic setting on it, But something is definitly wrong with what i'm doing.

double check your sequence settings.
they sound wrong. Remember DVCPRO HD is not set at 1920X1080.

Just do an Easy Set Up in FCP to DVCPRO HD 24. Then your sequence will be set correctly.

Or, highlight your sequence, do Cmd-zero to bring up Sequence Settings and choose the correct one from the pop up.

Thanks for replies, I double checked sequence settings and easy setup and a/v settings in FCP all are set correctly. When I checked the QT movie and went to Movie Info it says DVC PRO HD 720p60 @24 frames per second. I'm totally baffled.

What the... I went back into my cam settings and changed DVCPROHD 720P 24pn to DVCPRO 720p 24 and it works perfectly now. not sure why Does FCP have trouble in 24pn mode?

I take back what I said, it worked for one clip now it's doing the same thing, letterbox and compressed picture. Somebody's got to know what i'm doing wrong. HELP!

No issues whatsoever with FCP in 24pN mode. Of course, that's coming from the P2 cards since the HVX can't stream 24pN out of firewire. Essentially, what I have done is set up FCP for 24p and just imported. No need to check remove duplicate frames since there is no pulldown to remove in 24pN... it already is 23.98

Thanks, though I think the problem i'm having is not capturing, It is in exporting as a quicktime movie as DVC PROHD 720p 24p. It is just not doing this right.

I am guessing you have rebooted and dumped your fcp preferences. Some crazy issues I have had were fixed with a new set of prefs

Ok I figured it out, thanks for all the help guys. The moral of the story is never argue with FCP easy setups (that's what they are). I thought my custom setup was better than FCP easy set up, turns out I was wrong. I guess that's why they are the creators of the software and I'm not!!!
