What adapter do I need for my Dell and MBP

[jrod81]

hey guys
I just got a dell 24inch monitor to set up as a second for editing. i believe this end is called a dvi but i am not sure so I am attaching a link of the picture. anyway, i have the newer macbook pro (not the thunderbolt version but the one right before it). its the 2.53 i7 15inch. what type of adapter do i need to be able to use the dell with it?
here is the pic link:

the exact dell monitor i got (which is a 23 not 24 like i thought) is: [FONT=Trebuchet MS, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]U2311H 23 inch Flat Panel Display http://accessories.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=corp&sku=320-9270

The cable connector you pictured is a 15-pin VGA connection, but that monitor also has a 24-pin DVI input and a 20-pin Display Port input. I'd get an adapter for your MBP for either DVI or Display Port. You'll need to make sure you have a matching cable for the monitor as well. You can use the VGA, but you'll get better results with DVI or Display Port.
