What 3rd party accessories would you like to see for the AF100?

Just curious what people are thinking about when it comes time to accessorize your AF100. I would love to see things similar to what Element Technica builds for REDs and other cameras. Perhaps a nice replacement alloy handle with multiple threads for mounting monitor arms, etc. Certainly some kind of cool mount for a Ki Pro mini.

I'm hping AJA will build their own mount for the Ki Pro Mini. It should be a simple task to mate it to the side of the camera when the side handle is removed.

On that note Barry, do companies like Panasonic release engineering specs to 3rd party developers early so they can have products ready at camera launch? Or is it more of the 3rd parties getting a camera in house after launch and pulling out the old measuring tape?

I'd be interested in a relatively cheap add-on motor and control that produces smooth, electronic zooms on m4/3 or other (Canon, Nikon) lenses. If this exists already, can someone point me to it?

Right on, the next market for adapter companies.

That's very true. I was thinking of moding something up through the local hobby shop. Should be pretty inexpensive and the hardware is already there....

Me too. I like Barry's idea of a Ki Pro mini mount as well. This will probably
prove to be a popular camera for third parties to produce accessories for,
well, because it is a popular camera :-)

The AF100 looks pretty wide already and stacking accessories on the side is going to make it even harder to handhold. Is there some way to get a bigger battery, Ki Pro mini, wireless receiver, etc. placed in the rear to make it longer rather than fatter? How important are those connections on the rear of the camera?

Pro output adapter

Pro output adapter

I'd love to see a pro output adapter that fits on 15mm rods; this would be a sturdy aluminum box with two HD-SDI BNC plugs, two HDMI plugs, component HD BNCs, a composite video BNC, 1/4" phono audio out, and full sized Type B USB connector.

Strain relief/connector protection rails would be on both sides of the connectors; the conntectors would be on the side of the box, making it possible to stack the box behind another accessory (like a Ki Pro Mini or a battery accessory). Cables would connect the box to the flimsy connectors on the AF100.

A 4-pin xlr (or maybe Lemo?) power connector would supply power to the converters/DAs necessary for the video outputs.

I made a similar box for my HVX-200 (it has never failed to attract oohs and aahs from camera assistants and other HVX owners); I wish someone would make one for the AF100 so I don't have to.

Cheese plate

Cheese plate

I also agree about a cheese plate for the top of the camera (replacing the handle). I had to mount my AF100 upside down for a shot recently (for a space-walk movie; you had to be there); the AF100 handle is ergometricly round and so the head's quick-release plate wobbled on it, putting stress on the handle and its threads. A cheese plate would also be great for car mounts and for attaching one of those HDMI eyepieces.
