What’s up with this?

In Millimeter’s NABlog, there’s an entry titled: “Panasonic’s HD camcorder: Hit of the Show?” within which there appears to be some misinformation.
Here is the error in quote from the article appearing at the bottom of the first paragraph and again at the bottom of the 5th paragraph of the article.

“Pricing at $5,995 (that’s one using an HDV tape drive or $9,995(with two 2 GB P2 cards)…Panasonic points out how fast costs are dropping: a 2GB card cost $2000 last year, but you can now pick one up for $900.”

Okay, first off, the HVX doesn’t have an HDV tape drive...right?
Secondly, if the pricing calculations were correct, then the camera with two 2GB cards would equal $7795, not $9995. Haven’t we already been informed that the camcorder will be supplied with two 8GB cards, not only because the prices will have dropped to level out below 10 grand, but also because the 2GB cards aren’t even calibrated to record DVCPROHD, just DVCPRO50 and 25.

Maybe I've misunderstood something, or I simply should have known better than to think I could have gotten some new information on the HVX outside of these forums :)

first off, gotta give props to this site and all those on it. I was at the NAB booth:

Basically, Millimeter has some misinformation (understandably, I got different answers from different Panasonic reps until it was cleared up at the DVXuser special event). No, there is no HDV tape drive, there is no HDV compression period. And the $5,995 and $9,995 camera is EXACTLY the same, the $9,995 camera comes with two 8GB P2 cards. Which, bytheway, there was a little asterix next to that price mentioning that is a bundle deal and will not represent the individual 8GB P2 card pricing...

hope that helps :)

All you have to do is look at the thing as see the drive is clearly marked "Mini-DV." There were mockups at the Panasonic and Apple booths, the latter one you could pick up and touch.

That post is inexcusable.

Well, my initial concern wasn't so much about the HDV, I didn't really care so much about that, I actually thought if it were true, it would be kinda cool.
No, my main concern was with regard to the P2 cards that would be bundled with the camcorder. I was for sure they were going to be 8GB, and then they're saying it's 2GB. I even tried contacting them about these errors, and using these forums as a reference for my information, but they never responded, nor did they bother to edit the entry, and it made me think for a moment that maybe they knew something we didn't.
