Wet Lube - Dry Lube Question

Hi gang, long time reader....first time poster

I have been shooting with a Sony TRV950 for about a year now and I've been using a little cheap Canon camera to capture my video into my computer. The tapes that I've used in that 950 were the high-quality Sony tape which I think is wet lube. Those tapes go from my 950 to my cheap Canon camera for capture.

I just purchased a new DVX100A and I'm using the 63MQ tapes which I think are dry lub. Am I going to have any trouble when I put the 63MQ tapes into my cheap Canon camera to capture the footage after I've been using Sony wet lub tapes for so long in that camera? Did I just confuse the hell out of ya? :embarasse

Thanks for your time,

-Dean

Any thoughts on this folks? I'm interested in doing the same thing that Deanster wants to do, but I have the same concern. I don't think it will be a problem, but I'd rather not mess up my tapes or my DVX100A for stupid reasons. Thanks in advance for your help.

It's not a question of mixing tapes. It's really a question of mixing cameras. Basically, it boils down to whether or not you can take a tape that you've recorded in the DVX100A and put it in another camera or deck without worrying about bringing junk back into the DVX. That's all it is. Simple question. I've read a lot of topics about sticking with one brand of tape. I get THAT point.

I'm not sure how to clarify this further. The tape brand is not changing at all. I thought that Deanster had laid this out but I'll try to do it again so that we can try to get the question answered.

I have a DVX100A. I take a Panasonic 63MQ tape and record on it. I then take that tape out and put it in a Sony Handicam to capture the footage. If I put this tape back in the DVX100A will it introduce any negative materials back to the DVX heads because it has been in the Sony camera?

I'm not trying to be insubordinate or rude, but I don't understand your initial answer. Your answer seemed to indicate that by using one brand of tape there would be "no junk". The brand of tape is not in question here. It has nothing to do with the question. Are you intending to mean that by using one brand of camera there would be "no junk?" Again, I'm not trying to be rude here. I'm just trying to get an answer that we can all understand. Forgive me if I'm just misunderstanding.

A Panasonic MQ tape that is recordered on a DVX100 and then put into a deck that is used with Panasonic MQ tapes only is fine. A Panasonic MQ tape put into a deck that is being used with mixed brands contaminates the MQ tape if you want to recycle it. It's best to have a deck for Sony tapes and a deck for Panasonic tapes if you must use both brands. It may sound more expensive now but the occasional head replacement at about $500.00 a pop adds up fast.

Thank you so much! I'm so glad that there is finally a clear answer to the question. I believe I will just use the DVX100A as a deck, as it seems sturdy enough to handle it from what I've read. Thanks again.

So, the Sony wet-lube/Panasonic dry-lube tape is STILL an issue? I use my Sony VX2000 as a deck, but have digitized all Panasonic DVX100 stuff with the Panasonic since I've already spent $500 replacing the heads on my VX2000 a couple years ago.
