Western Union Scam

You're right in that baiting the scammer to send cash is a scam in its own right. Granted on a much smaller scale. I don't think this con man will send any cash. What he will do is send more e-mails, carefully tweaking his story.

The scam works by making YOU cash a forged check not them.
Alveraz doesn't have any intention of cashing the check. He already knows that the check isn't any good and cashing the check will take money out of his pocket. And yes the police will shoot first and ask questions later. "Ooops, this guy was the victim not the suspect", "Hey you got any more bullets? I ran out of bullets".

For some reason I don't think a cop would shoot someone for cashing a fraudulent check... maybe I'm just naive...

Yep, you're very naive if you've never heard the expression "shoot first ask questions later". It's called a 'Figure of speech' and it's not meant to be taken literally. If you don't understand the difference between figurative speech and literal speech I can't help you.

Maybe you've never heard of sarcasm...

"A form of irony in which apparent praise conceals another, scornful meaning. For example, a sarcastic remark directed at a person who consistently arrives fifteen minutes late for appointments might be, “Oh, you've arrived exactly on time!"

Yes I've heard of sarcasm and your statement doesn't qualify as sarcasm. It doesn't even fit the definition you posted yourself.

Anyway, I'm done with this foolish discussion about semantics. It's going nowhere fast.

Easy fella's ... don't give me a chance to try out my fairly new mod powers :banned:

Ok, actually, I'd probably only get to delete the posts, with a warning first ... but I'll keep my eye on you!

Yikes, milksac. cool down.

Update, his last e-mail suggested he might send the cash. Keep your fingers crossed!

Ah, the old scammers at it again. I love to have fun with these scumbags. Check out one of my old goofs:

I agree the cops should do something I just wouldn't be surprised if they didn't. Because of a recent incident a female friend of mine had I am ye of little faith...not to hijack this thread completely but I will share...its kind of a chilling story...

My friend is a single mom. She went to the movies with her 12 year old daughter. When they came out, there was a note on her car that said "I love your GMC blue eyes." Well, this freaked the hell out of her...but she let it go.

The next morning, she noticed her cat was outside. She never lets her cat out at night so she went and retrieved the cat. A few minutes later while doing the dishes she noticed the cat was outside again. She investigated to see how she was getting outside. The small window to the basement was smashed open. Upon further investigation, she discovered that while she and her daugther was sleeping during the night this sicko intruder entered her house, for God knows why, and proceeded to "use" her daughter's bathroom. Presumably, the author of the note and the intruder were one and the same.

Terrified, she immediately went to the cops. His response, "sorry ma'am. there is nothing we can do. maybe you should get a dog". So, my faith is SERIOUSLY rattled.

This is terribly sad but true. I was in a similar (but far less scary) situation. And the authorities basically sent me in circles as no one would handle my problem. I don't think it was because a lack of want on their part. The crux is all the imposed bureaucracy within their department.

The police are mostly a reactionary organization - something generally has to happen before they can act. And even though I knew I was defrauded, they wouldn't do anything because they said there was no actual evidence of "intent to commit fraud."

All I could do was sue those who wronged me. But the bad guys had seemingly disappeared off the planet. So how am I going to sue someone I can find? And more importantly, how can I realistically recover any losses? It just ends up a big mess where YOU (the victim) ends up spending lots and lots of time and money trying to right the wrong.

Don't get me wrong, I have a tremendous amount of respect for police officers who put their lives on the line to truly protect and serve. But in this bureaucratic and litigious society of ours, their hands are tied and the victims end up suffering more.

Ah, yes. Revenge came in the form of an investigatory broadcast on our local FOX 11 news show that decimated their business and reputations.
