West Memphis Three Freed

For those of you who have followed this, the West Memphis Three have been freed after spending 18 years in prison.

I remember seeing the film Paradise Lost in the theater with my ex-gf. We didn't know much about the film's details and how raw it was, and I walked away thinking it was both the most difficult film I had perhaps ever seen, and uncomfortable with how the young men were convicted. I couldn't bring myself to watch the sequel, but followed the case a few times over the years. Now, all these years later, they are finally free.

I only hope someday in the future Ryan Ferguson has the same fortune.

Yeah, I heard this on NPR.
Really well-written article, and what a strange case, especially the Alford guilty plea. At least they weren't wrongly executed.
Haven't seen Paradise Lost.

I can't imagine being in prison for half of my life, then just leaving because someone said "guilty" instead of "not guilty."

Yeah pretty crazy
So they didn't murder the kids? Or there's just not enough evidence?

From the way it sounds, they really didn't do it. They were weird kids that were blamed for it. But imagine what you would say at 16 if someone accused you of something, and they had "proof" ... "I swear I had nothing to do with this," wouldn't matter. Talk about helpless.

Yeah, Ryan Ferguson really is one guy I'm certain is innocent and is a terrible victim of injustice. You can say there's not enough evidence to convict Amanda Fox and maybe you'd be right. You could say whatever Leonard Peltier did was long ago and he should be freed (and I agree, at least freed to the Sioux Nation territory), but Ryan Ferguson is completely innocent. No evidence, contradictory evidence even, and the eye witnesses who put him there have all recanted. One of them solely admitting to the murder and backing up his alibi! It's just horrific that he remains locked up.
