We're All Nuts

I just spent 3 hours sitting in front of the computer, editing.

Finished a rough draft of what I was working on. Still needs some CC and fine tuning.

3 hours.

For 9 seconds of footage.

only 3 hours? ... Slacker :cheesy:

... Yes, by "real world" standards we are crazy. Which by actual real world standards means we are healthy.

I had to recently fire together a project that took a large amount of my time only to find out that the person who “needed it yesterday” decided they didn’t need it anymore = Corporate said why you doing that? Stop Cease desist!

I deleted all associated files and workflow.
2 months later I get a call “Hey that was great you want to do that now?”

OUCH -
Corporate clients (like all other kinds) can be a pain.
But man, that sucks.

I got into video because I thought it would get me out of the house more.

That backfired when I got to the editing part.

Well, just to make up for it, a 480 frame CGI render just completed at 10:52 am.

It was started at 8:03 pm.

On the 3rd of January.

Hee hee. I know THAT feeling. I made the mistake of rendering Quiktime files once and only once. After days of rendering, the system lost power and the .mov file was corupted and unusable. It's been .tga sequences ever since.

But, I multipass anything real important anyway.

Oh, to the long editing for 9 seconds, just think about what that footage will be. If more people did that kind of thing, less crap would be out there for the veiwing.

Ah, but you haven't seen it yet.

Ouch !!

Man I think you should consider setting up a mini- render farm, got some old PCs lying about?

I will, eventually.

But this one was runing on a Compaq Precision with a 3.4 gig Xeon and 2 GB of RAM. I firgured that'd be fast enough.

2+ hours per frame. Sheesh.

And, to tell the truth, I'm not sure I liked the way it turned out. I may not use it.

..Maybe if you tweak that one screwy light a little, dim it a stop maybe? ..and then re-render to see if it looks better? :cheesy:

Just think one day in the future, rendering will not be needed everything will work in real-time.

I want a supercomputer now !

Anhar

But Anhar, you have a supercomputer right there in front of you! By ten year old standards.

And remember, it took Michelangelo 10 years to do just one Sistine chapel.

Very true Petrus, but sometimes I'm very impatient, I just hate waiting :)

*Are we there yet?* #repeat every two seconds
