Well, we didn't make it...

Hard to explain. A picture is worth 1000 words. They are more accurate and natural. Skin tones are less plasticky. In certain situations there could be magenta undertones -- that's gone now. There's other stuff too -- improvements in both RAW and in Apple ProRes. Take a look.

certainly will...

Wow, nice. The better skin tones from the AVCHD internal and the original 4K2HD was one of the reasons i enjoyed my O7Q alot. If it is even better, nice!

Is the magenta banding issue solved then? Or at least heavily supressed?

Hi Mitch. Do the SLOSG2 > REC709 LUTS on your website/firmware take the new color improvements on the FS700 into consideration?

So, Mitch, it would be a great help if you(C-D) published an FS700 recommended exposure settings, middle gray(18%) IRE setting and a white (90%) IRE setting. The standard Sony Slog2 exposure settings(with no LUT) are to place middle gray at 32 IRE and white at 59 IRE. If you are suggesting 2 stops overexposure, that would mean middle gray at 45 IRE and white at 90 IRE(no LUT), which sounds right for what I'm seeing.

BTW, so far, the color improvement is noteworthy. It looks considerably better, at least, to my eyes on preliminary testing. Thanx to you and your team for all your hard work.

edit: been playing around, further. The color and general quality is MUCH improved. I'm very happy with these updates. Thanx again.

I made my own lut with Davinci Resolve and loaded it on my Odyssey and it worked perfectly. What a great feature! Thanks team CD!

Well of course it is a matter of taste, because what we are talking about is how much noise is in the image and at what point do you see banding. Push any image hard enough and both will appear from any camera.

Off the top of my head, middle gray at 45 IRE and white at 90 IRE sounds about right. And you can always use the exposure compensation LUTs or create your own. That's the beauty of the system.

Just back from a real world shoot and... wow... just wow. Yet again Convergent Design have given me a new camera.

The colour improvement to the FS700 is very noticeable. The overall colour seems more balanced and skin looks amazing. The LUT function means I no longer have to imagine what the image will look like, allowing me to make faster and more confident lighting decisions. The SONY_EE_SL2_L709A-2 LUT seems to give me the best result so far. This LUT is a bit more of a "look" than what I'm used to seeing in a REC709 LUT but I'm not complaining. It looks incredible! Whatever happened that "Sony look" ;-) ?? I think this update actually brings it closer to a Black Magic look, only better in my opinion. Dare I say it even looks more Alexa-esque!

Well done everyone at Convergent Design. I can't thank you enough!

Thanks for the update Mitch! What's the timeline for the 2k/4k raw slowmo > 2k/4k prores slowmo that was announced at nab? I was really hoping to get those functions on this build but these overall image updates are certainly welcomed. Also is that "onion skinning" function still on the to-do list or has that been pushed back to 2019? haha thanks for your help, can't wait to play with the new features.

Having no luck with the transfer tool. Trying to transfer ProRes UHD to the computer. Always worked just fine. Tonight it doesn't work. Tried to revert back to transfer tool 1.5, no luck. Also tried placing the SSD back in to the 7Q and manually ejecting it. Files all seem to be on the SSD, just can't transfer with the tool. Anyone run in to that or have an idea? Thanks.

We will publish a new forecast soon. Just got this release out the door. Yes, onion skinning is still in the plan.

So, anyone has tested the color improvement yet? I did not have time.

Just want to make sure the improved image is not just our imagination since the "doctor" told us the "pill" would work. Whats the saying in english? When you take imaginary medicine and it works, just because you believed it would work.

:huh::nads:

Would love to see some samples/screen grabs of the colour improvement from peoples tests if they're willing to share?

If the improvement is entirely in my head then might be time for a trip to the doctor.
