Well, we didn't make it...

We have a plan for addressing this specifically, and in fact we showed a prototype version of it on a GH4 at NAB. For this release it will not be there, but we do plan to address this quite specifically in the near future.

Great! I remember the GH4 desqueeze demo well. After this pic was tweeted to me from NAB, I bought my Odyssey 7Q+ two days later. Can't wait!!! :)

Mitch, the way you interact with the public and your market/buyers is so open and up-front that it makes me want to buy an Odyssey even though I have absolutely no need for one.

That's the highest level of compliment there is.

I was just thinking the same thing. I wish more companies would do this. Transparency is really appreciated and interesting to see behind the curtain.

I've also met Mitch in person at a lighting class at Abelcine a couple years back and he was a genuinely cool guy, so that helps.

Agreed. I bought their Sony L-series battery plate and got one that was part of a bad batch. The machining was off so the mounting holes didn't line up with the back of the 7Q+. Mitch found out I had a shoot that weekend and on a friday evening, personally called all the rental houses in LA where they keep units stocked to try to find me one. Although that didn't pan out, this was a great example of CD going way above and beyond for one lowly customer in a pinch. They Fedex'd me a replacement the next week and when it turned out that one also had the same issue, they immediately sent me one of their older models that used a different battery plate. That one fit perfectly. I feel like with any other company, this sort of thing would have been a month long ordeal. Mitch and the team continue to impress.

Thanks so much. Of course our real goal is to not send out a bad item in the first place, but it's the least we can do to make things right once something like that happens. I know what it's like to be staring at something that doesn't want to work correctly on a Friday afternoon, knowing that I have a shoot on Saturday morning.

BTW everyone, as we add more and more features, our firmware updates get bigger and take longer to load into your Odysseys. It can take as long as 40 minutes, so now is a good time to dig out your AC power supply rather than risk it on a battery. And by "now" I mean tonight.

my body is ready.

time to dig out 2 of my power supply for both 7Q and 7Q+ to update at same time

Battery or AC, there's always a risk of circuit break or premature draining... Battery and AC in parallel, now that's secure :)

I assume losing power during update won't brick units, will it?

It will not brick the unit.

Don't try this at home because it can be a pain in the ass, but if you lose power or otherwise interrupt the process of loading new firmware, the Odyssey will revert to an Emergency Mode. This mode won't let you do much of anything, but it will allow you to start the process of loading firmware again.

I've downloaded but not updated yet. What changes to colours have there been for FS700? What would we expect to see?

Hard to explain. A picture is worth 1000 words. They are more accurate and natural. Skin tones are less plasticky. In certain situations there could be magenta undertones -- that's gone now. There's other stuff too -- improvements in both RAW and in Apple ProRes. Take a look.
