Well I "was" excited...not now.

Well after about 4 months of following this board (first post though) I saved my pennies and went to B&H website to pull the trigger on an HMC150.

Was going to go with the package that I know at least one person here on the forum went with. It was the 3499 deal with bag, card, battery, lcd hood, etc. Low and behold I get to the site and find that the price increased a C note. Needless to say I was disappointed. It was also "out of stock"...caused by them not having the 16gb card in stock.

So, I guess I am back to waiting. I would have gone ahead with the order and just waited for the 16gb card to be back in stock, but the price increase sort of held me up. Its just kinda hard for me (on principle I guess) paying 100 bones more for something that I could have gotten last week for a 100 bones less. Such is life I guess.

Miser...I looked at that deal, but I think the other one is better...

The camera alone for 3199.95 with free shipping, plus it comes with a rebate for a 8GB card and the large battery....

So for $400 less you are only missing the bag, (which I read is not big enough for a lot of extras), and the hood, (which doesn't cost much) and the mic....

Anywho...that's my $0.03...:)

Agreed,

I love B&H but kits (from any site) for cameras in this price range are bogus. They saddle you with a bunch of crap gear for a hefty premium. D.I.Y.

was this thread really necessary?

It appears that in your view, probably not. I was basically thinking out loud, figuring I would get some advice from other experienced users...which I did. Consequently, I decided to look at other options.

Incidentally, I learned a few other things as well.

Hey G. I didn't think your post was unnecessary!

I also bought from B&H a few weeks back. It seems the 150's are selling quite nicely over there! I asked them for a deal over and above (which they will do!) because I am a "Gold" customer! Unfortunately, I was turned down.

The salesman alluded to the fact that they were in demand. I guess that's good for Pannny! LOL

Anyway, I bought the camera and hard Thermodyne case from B&H and shopped around for everything else.

I saved about $200 doing that!

Ask around here... I believe there are a few dealers (member Tim Harry is a dealer) that will match or beat B&H prices on the 150.

Well I am now "Excited" again.

Well I am now "Excited" again.

I just wanted to thank you all for the advice regarding my pending HMC150 purchase.

At the behest of some of you experienced users here, I scrapped the whole B&H "Kit" thing as started fresh with a DIY course of action.

Placed my order with B&H for the HMC150 (the 3199 deal) and added a Rode NTG-1 shotgun. Went with the NTG-1 due to its smaller size. This will be an "on camera" mic only so phantom is available and batteries will not be needed.

Also, went with a couple of 16gb cards from NewEgg. Worked out to be the same amount I wanted to spend on the "kit".

Thanks much to all for the advice and making be re-think.

Regards,

G.
