weirdness with HVX200 variable frame rate

Test 1) Camera set on 24pn mode at 24fps and filmed a ProTools computer screen running timecode in realtime for 4 minutes. Imported the video into FCP and the results are equal. The time on the timeline in FCP equal the timecode which was filmed. Works as it should!

Test 2) Camera set on 24pn mode at 12fps and filmed a ProTools computer screen running timecode in realtime for 8 minutes. Imported the video into FCP and the results are that the video is about 00:00:1:15 secs slower per minute than exactly twice as fast. In other words, if I scroll the FCP marker to the 1 minute mark, the timecode that was filmed should be at the 2 minute mark… but it’s not! It’s at a little less than that!

Bottom line is that filming 12fps in 24pn mode doesn’t seem to equally double the time from 24fps.

…maybe I’m just doing something completely wrong… but it really doesn’t make any sense!
(I found out that the video speed needs to be bumped up to about 102% in FCP to have it match)

anyone? I'm totally stumped or discovered a bug....

No bug, this is already documented in the manual. The variable frame rates are not exactly the same as the nominal frame rates. For example, 12 fps is something like 11.888 fps in reality. Again, the precise frame rates are printed in the HVX user's manual as well as The HVX Book.
