Weird problem with HVX: tape will not playback footage....help??

i have a problem playing back my tape in my hvx, i can hear the audio fine but the video is not playing for some reason - all i see is a black screen with a green strip on the right side.....is something not set right in the menu options or something???

i normally shoot to p2 cards and this is only my 3rd time shooting to tape...........i am supposed to be filming a concert to tape in an hour from now...please help.....thanks in advance.
 
I would try a head cleaning cassette. I would stick with a single brand of tape because there is anecdotal evidence that helps.
It could also be a bad cassette.
 
ya, i bought a head cleaning cassette and the problem still exists.

i've had the camera since october 2006 so i have the first model that came out, is the camera known to start having issues after a certain period of time?
 
Usually the heads on a camera will last for a long time if you take care of them. If something found it's way into the record or playback heads (like dust or whatever) that could cause this problem. I would clean the heads again, triple check to make sure it's not the tapes and if that doesn't work, I'd send it in for repair.
 
yea its definately not the tapes, the tapes played just fine in another camera, i've cleaned it again and tried recording some test footage - nothing. no video but audio is fine.
